The Test of the First Horton

Al Backstrom sent me the following amazing set of pictures. He says he saved them  when FAA was discarding them. It seems that they were taken the day of the accident.  I have cropped them a bit.

I sure would appreciate any coments from people who know more about how one tests such a craft and how the FAA works.  E-mail me at..    dannysoar@worldnet.att.net

Here you can see the arrangement of the tail surfaces. I believe the tall man on the right is Bill Horton

Here is a picture of the underside of the Horton before the accident

Starting the engine.

Another shot showing the control surfaces. Is he starting to taxi?

I imagine this is a picture after the accident. It is a much enlarged section of a  long shot down a runway.

It seems that they are replacing the tire. Note the damage to radiator guard and the
underside of what ever it is that isn't a wing.

I have no idea when in the day this was taken. But note the list. And is that the
flat tire lying on the ground?

Thank you, Al Backstrom for the use of these amazing pix..
