GLITCH FINDER

The 1988, 2.3L T-Bird Coupe would intermittently idle rough, stall and fail to restart. It also lacked power. Code 14 would set. The car had 3 replacement distributors installed in it to no avail. Many sensors and other components had also been replaced.

Using the QCSC DAS Glitch Finder, we flagged the defective series of aftermarket ignition modules.

The Glitch Finder monitors a circuit until an abnormality occurs, it then grabs the defective waveform automatically.

This is a perfect example of a REAL-WORLD glitch. The Ford troubleshooting manual (HC) notes that radio signals on the PIP (reference) line can set a code 14. Despite the fact that we were within 500 feet of the mighty ABC radio tower, radio waves from outer-space had nothing to do with this intermittent stall and/or rough idle. QCSC DAS helps us distinguish between fact and fantasy!
