Based on a recent trip to Sri Lanka, her recent paintings reveal both the dark troubles as well as the exotic beauty of that island. Larson spent much of the last year traveling to Sri Lanka and working with a relief organization which has been providing aid in response to 2004's devastating Tsunami disaster. Their efforts included the rebuilding of schools, clinics, and helping local fishermen and craftsmen re-establish their livelihood. Through this experience, Larson found herself deeply moved by the people and landscape of this island. Says Larson:"While in Sri Lanka I was captivated by the intensity of the rich colors, the exquisite beauty of the natural environment and the fascinating depth of the island's cultures. But as is the case in so many other parts of the world, there is another side to life than the one that may at first be apparent. The tones I have used to some extent reflect my reaction to the recent history of the terrible tsunami, whose effects are still so clearly evident, as well as the current political and social upheaval. No amount of hardship and adversity however can destroy the essential beauty and mystique of such a land, and I hope to have been able to capture some small part of that in my work."
