Traveloguesby Dan and Judy Danz Besides trips on the motorcycle around the Western part of the United States, we travelled quite a bit when we were stationed in Australia for 16 months in 1994 and 1995. While we there, we wrote letters home. This page contains a collection of these letters.
Tales from Down Under
This world-famous train service operates twice a week in both directions over the 4348 kilometers of track between Perth on the Indian Ocean in Western Australia to Sydney on the Pacific ocean along the east coast of the continent. The train makes but a few scheduled stops along the way, notably in Adelaide, the capitol of South Australia. The coast-to-coast service only became possible in 1970, with the adoption of standard gauge rail lines in the three states through which it passes. During Christmas and New Year's holidays at the end of 1994, we took the Indian Pacific train across the Outback of Australia, from Sydney to Perth. At the end of the train trip, we spent nearly two weeks poking around the southwestern edges of Australia. Three glorious weeks of vacation/holidays on a motorcycle trip up the northeast coast of Australia, to the vicinity of Port Douglas, north of Cairns and then back to Sydney.
'tain't anything like American Football. A tale of how we were introduced to the Australian football codes. This tale was written in 1994 in Sydney Australia as a letter to friends and relatives at home in the USA by Dan after he had to be admitted to the Royal North Shore Hospital under emergency conditions.
