Daions Online

Bruce Diamond's 555 goldtop shows the distinctive Daion headstock shape and stylized tuning fork emblem.

I HAVE SOUGHT TO MAKE THIS AN INFORMATIONAL SITE FOR ALL TO SHARE. DUE TO SOME RECENT INCORRECT AND MISLEADING INFORMATION ATTRIBUTED TO MYSELF AT A LARGE ONLINE AUCTION HOUSE, I MUST NOW ASK THAT ANY QUOTES OR MENTION OF THIS WEBSITE FOR SUCH MONETARY GAIN BE APPROVED IN ADVANCE BY ME VIA EMAIL. JUST EMAIL ME SO WE CAN MAKE SURE THE INFORMATION PUT FORWARD IS CORRECT BEFORE IT GETS POSTED.

THERE ARE NO REMAINING RECORDS KNOWN TO EXIST OF MCI, INC. THERE IS NO WAY TO SAY WITH ANY CERTAINTY THE EXACT NUMBER OF UNITS OF ANY MODEL OF DAION PRODUCED UNTIL SUCH RECORDS CAN BE LOCATED. ANY MENTION OF A GIVEN PRODUCTION NUMBER IS PURE SPECULATION AND CAN IN NO WAY BE CONFIRMED.

An online place for the "ENLIGHTENED"

This site is dedicated to the now-defunct Daion musical instrument company, the "ENLIGHTENED", and any who wish to be.

I hope this will be gathering place for Daion owners and enthusiasts from around the world. This is a work in progress and I sincerely seek all corrections, addition of information related to the the many models of Daion instruments.

I appreciate the pitures sent in the past, but I am getting overloaded lately. I live in a rural area and am limited to a dial up connection. Pictures as large as 1gig can take a half hour or more to load for viewing, much less to post on this site. Please email to see if the picture is needed before sending several gigs of images. They will only clog my mailbox and require deletion. Also, include the word Daion or something similar in any emails to help me separate out spam. Emails with no titles or nonsensical titles will probably be deleted without being opened.

I want to thank all those who have already sent in pictures for the site, but I am always looking for anything we don't have yet. Also, BIG HUGE thanks go out to Andrew Jackson of Nashville, TN. Not only did he sell me this beautiful Mk.XX-B, he is also responsible for sending me the digitized catalog pages that appear here, along with the original 1982 pricelist that has all models, options, colors and even hardshell cases for all to see.

Enjoy the scenery! There are already things I have never seen, and I'm sure many others will be astounded, as well.

Credit where credit is due!!

The owner of the catalog pages, letter and pricelist, also the person who actually scanned them, has spoken up!! Denny Loveridge, of Ohio is current quintuple Daion owner and has promised even more info. This should get interesting!

Coming SOON!!!

Unfortunately, due to my sad dial up connection, I cannot put up the owner's gallery at this time. When and if I have access to faster connectivity it my be possible to add that feature, but not for a while. Many thanks to those who have sent pics in the past. They are saved and awaiting that day.

The serial number list is about a hundred and fifty strong. There are lots of holes stil in the production, but MAYBE we can get an idea of how many of each model might have been made if enough information is collected. If you are not on the list and wist to be, email me the serial number of your guitar, your location and your name (name optional). This gives an idea of how the guitars are distributed around the world. This may be the very best insurance to get your Daion back in case it is stolen, and might even deter would be thieves from targeting Daions. Hard to sell a rare stolen guitar if the serial number is known all over the world.

Although I tried, and for a short time had a bulletin board, my provider no longer supports boards, so that is not going to be possible.

Please note that I am only recording the original Daion designs and solid body electrics and basses. If somene else wishes to begin a list of acoustic Daions and copy instruments, I would encourage it, but I just don't have the time to devote to it at this point.

Anything else that might be helpful? Drop me an email.

The Forgotten Marque

Due to a very limited production run, the musical instruments of the Daion company are rare. The quality and craftsmanship of these instruments is known only to the "ENLIGHTENED," those few souls fortunate enough to actually own one.

What the heck is a Daion?

Well since you ask, let me enlighten you, that you may become one of the few. Daion was a short-lived Japanese company that made some extremely high quality musical instruments. They made acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and electric bass guitars (as far as I know, although we may have evidence of a mandolin, too! If there are other Daion instruments I would be happy to add them to the list if they are brought to my attention).

Being a bass player, I have only plinked around on the other products, but often heard them played by accomplished players and was quite impressesed.

Due to the large number of pictures that have already accumulated, the site is now being broken up into different catagories to allow for faster loading (especially for us poor dial-up saps). Please select from the links below to view the different Daion instrument catagories.

Daion Electrified Acoustic Guitars
Daion Electric Guitars
Daion Semi-Hollow Body Guitars

I felt that this would be of more value than most anything else on the site, so here is is... the original 1982 pricelist. There would not be another one as Daion was history by the next year.

Original Daion Pricelist

This next link is to a letter which I believe was sent to the dealers. Thanks to Andy Jackson again for sending the file; which I now know he got from from Pat Medlock, and which originated from Denny Loveridge; who also deserves a big thanks for scanning it, along with all the other old documents and catalog pages that appear on the site.

Daion Company Letter

The catalog is FINALLY done!

I finally got all the scans sized to where they would work, and took an entire day uploading this stuff and creating new pages to hold it. Thanks to Denny for his work scanning, zipping and sending them to me for all to enjoy. This is the entire 1982 Daion catalog, including the letter, pricelists, and products available in the US at that time.

1982 Daion Catalog

Here's an interesting list of various things off the internet that Paul Carter of Canada found. BTW, the Ebay ad for the Power Mk. XX-B mentioning the phrase about "most sought after" is Andy Jackson's ad for the bass I now own!

In just trying to access C Paul Carter's site (May 27, 2007), it appears to be defunct at the moment. I only hope this is temporary or an error on my part, as Paul's list was an excellent source, especially for the a acoustic crowd. Please email me on this if anyone finds anything.

OK, so where do you get a Daion

That is why I have created this site. Now we all have a place to call home.

Since the company ist Kaputt, you will have to find a used one. If you live in the Northeast US, Bruce Diamond is probably a good place to start! He is a luthier who also sells used instruments. A link to his homepage is posted below.

They occasionally appear in music shops, pawn shops, and online at large auction houses and used musical instrument sale sites too, but you really have to hunt them down. The good news is that they usually aren't very expensive because most people don't recognize the name and shun them as a cheap imported instrument.

Anyone looking for a Daion is welcome to email me. Anyone trying to sell a Daion is welcome to email me. I wil try to put potential buyers and sellers in contact if possible. Please send an email if you find what you want, if your Daions sells, or if you change your mind, though. Anyone who is intrigued by Daion is also welcome to email me.
