Premise: This series chronicled the adventures of Tom Brewster-a lawyer wannabe, who is known as Sugarfoot, a nickname denoting one grade lower than a tenderfoot.
Notes: Sugarfoot alternated with Cheyenne during its first two seasons. It alternated with Bronco as part of the Cheyenne Show during its third season, and alternated with both Bronco and Cheyenne during its final season.
The Episodes
1 Brannigan's Boots. Sept. 17,1957. GS: Dennis Hopper, Merry Anders, Arthur Hunnicutt, Chubby Johnson. Tom Brewster heads for the town of Bluerock in search of a post office. But in Bluerock he finds a local celebration going on and enters a shooting contest. His aim is so bad that the crooked politicians decide Tom is a likely replacement for their late sheriff and promptly pin a badge on him. Tom, however, takes the job seriously and walks into the sheriff's office to took things over. Now that he has a job he needs a new pair of boots and he spies a pair standing against the wall. He puts them on and feels he is all set for the job of sheriff. But a pretty girl who has been watching him calls him a Sugarfoot, and says he's not man enough to fill her late father's boots. In an attempt to prove her wrong, Tom finds himself on the trail of her father's killer.
2 Reluctant Hero.
Oct. 1, 1957. Sugarfoot takes a job with a rancher, unaware that
his new employer is involved in a range war. Then he learns that
the owner of the rival ranch is
an attractive young lady.
3 The Strange Land.
Oct. 15, 1957. GS: Morris Ankrum, Rhodes Reason, Jan Chaney. An
elderly rancher, bitter at the world, uses a gunman as a means
of avenging himself.
Sugarfoot attempts to stop the gunman's reign of terror, but first
must talk to the old man.
4 Bunch Quitter. Oct. 29,1957. GS: Ray Danton. When a trail boss is shot by outlaws, Sugarfoot is appointed to lead a cattle drive to a secret destination. The cattle-owner's daughter reveals this destination to a charming cowboy who then joins the rustlers in an ambush.
5 Trail's End. Nov. 12,1957. GS: Venetia Stevenson, Chris Alcaide. Reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Sugarfoot is disappointed to learn that she is now a dance-hall queen. She tells Sugarfoot that she is trying to break away from this life, but a ruthless cattle baron intends to force her to marry him.
6 Quicksilver. Nov. 26,1957. GS: John Litel, Fay Spain, Frank Wilcox, Nestor Paiva, Richard Crane. Sugarfoot comes to the aid of a silver-mine owner who can't meet his payroll because he has been robbed.
7 Misfire. Dec. 10, 1957. GS: Connie Stevens, Frank Albertson, Eve Brent, Pernell Roberts. Mercy Preston schemes to use Sugarfoot to dispose of two men who stand between her and the possession of a rich mine. Her sister Patience attempts to help Sugarfoot.
8 The Stallion Trail. Dec. 24,1957. GS: Paul Birch, Patrick Waltz, Will Wright, Carol Kelly. While out in the mountains Sugarfoot captures a wild horse. Later the horse is stolen from him and sold to a rancher. Sugarfoot takes a job as a stablehand in order to take care of the animal and to expose the horse thief.
9 Small War at Custer Junction. Jan. 7,1958. GS: Jean Carson, Reba Waters, Karl Swenson. Sugarfoot rescues a girl after claim jumpers kill her miner father.
10 Bullet Proof. Jan. 21, 1958. GS: Joi Lansing, Gregory Walcott, Guinn Williams, Donald "Red" Barry, Richard Reeves, Dick Rich. In an attempt to trap the robbers, Sugarfoot pretends to know the whereabouts of a haul made in a bank robbery.
11 Deadlock. Feb. 4,1958. GS: Herbert Heyes, John Vivyan, William Schallert, Oliver McGowan. Sugarfoot, who has been studying law by correspondence, is tricked into serving as a juror in a crime case in which his own employer is the plaintiff. As the trial progresses, Sugarfoot comes to the realization that some of the evidence being presented is phony.
12 Man Wanted. Feb. 18,1958. GS: Anna-Lisa, C arles Bronson, Pernell Roberts, Mort Mills. A friend of Sugarfoot's decides to write to Sweden for a mail-order bride. Convinced that he isn't good-looking enough to attract a young lady, he sends along Sugarfoot's picture instead of his own.
13 The Dead Hills. March 4,1958. GS: Ruta Lee, Veda Ann Borg, Michael Dante, Lane Bradford, Duane Grey. Sugarfoot's boss, Lucy Barron, tells him that there is a large sum of money owing on her ranch and that it's threatened with foreclosure. Sugarfoot determines to protect his employer's interest.
14 A Wreath For Charity Lloyd. March 18,1958. GS: Erin O'Brien, Charles Cooper, James Philbrook, Mike Monahan, Harry Harvey, Sr. Sugarfoot, as acting sheriff, is asked to help find a woman's missing husband. When he finds the man, he realizes that he is a wanted outlaw who must be taken into custody.
15 Hideout. April 1, 1958. GS: Paul Fix, Anita Gordon, Peter Brown. A group of teenagers decide to become bandits. Sugarfoot tries to help the sister of one of the youngsters who wants to keep her brother from a life of crime.
16 Guns for Big Bear (A.K.A. "Contraband Cargo"). April 15, 1958. GS: Lisa Montell, Ted de Corsia, Gerald Mohr, Bing Russell. A pretty Indian girl guides Sugarfoot as he drives a wagonload of supplies to a Pawnee village. But he doesn't realize just what cargo he's carrying.
17 Price on His Head. April 29,1958. GS: Patrick McVey, Dorothy Green, Karl Swenson, Venetia Stevenson, Virginia Gregg. Four stagecoach passengers are kidnaped by masked bandits and held hostage. Sugarfoot is dispatched to raise the ransom money.
18 Short Range. May 13,1958. GS: Erin O'Brien, Myron Healey, Olive Sturgess, Sammy Jackson, Stephen Ellsworth, Anna Maria Nanasi, Lane Chandler, Slim Pickens, George O'Hanlon. Sugarfoot is on the trail of a renegade who is selling guns to the Indians. Learning that his quarry is connected with a traveling puppet show, Sugarfoot joins the show.
19 The Bullet and the Cross. May 27,1958. GS: Charles Bronson, Stuart Randall, Robert Wark. After a mine cave-in, Sugarfoot is trapped with a half-breed Indian who has been accused of murder. The man tells Sugarfoot that he has been wrongly accused and that he hid in the mine to escape from the lawmen hunting him.
20 Mule Team. June 10, 1958. GS: Don Haggerty, Elaine Janssen. When Sugarfoot inherits a mine and a mule team he is hard put to realize any value from them. He begins to build a railroad spur to work the mine but is blocked by a man who wants to gain control of the mine.
21 Ring of Sand. Sept. 16,1958. GS: John Russell, Edward Byrnes, Will Wright. An elderly frontiersman becomes embittered when his only son is killed by bandits. He forces Sugarfoot to help him lead the gunmen into the desert in search of a non-existent waterhold.
22 Brink of Fear. Sept. 30,1958. GS: Jerry Paris, Venetia Stevenson, Allen Case, Harry Antrim, Lane Chandler, Don Gordon. An old friend of Sugarfoot's is paroled from prison and Sugarfoot tries to help him. Then the deputy marshal, jealous because Sugarfoot's friend is winning the affection of the prettiest girl in town, decides to frame him.
23 The Wizard. Oct. 14,1958.,GS: Eftern Zimbalist, Jr., Norma Moore, Edward Kernmer, Paul Keast, Oliver McGowan, Jon Lormer, Beverly Gowan. A traveling magician, who is also an accomplished hypnotist, hypnotizes his assistant and orders her to set fire and to name Sugarfoot as the arsonist. After the fire the irate townspeople, hearing Sugarfoot is responsible for the blaze, decide to lynch him.
24 The Ghost. Oct. 28,1958. GS: Tommy Rettig, Edward Kernmer, Gail Kobe, Michael Pate. Sugarfoot is given the assignment of taking a teenager to Missouri to collect the boy's inheritance. Enroute, Sugarfoot learns that the boy is violent and is also suspected of a murder.
25 The Canary Kid. Nov. 11, 1958. GS: Frank ,&Ibertson, Lonie Blackman, Saundra Edwards, Donald "Red" Barry, Yvonne Shubert, Stuart Randall. A notorious gunman learns that he and Sugarfoot are almost doubles. He kidnaps Sugarfoot and prepares to impersonate him in order to carry out a bank robbery.
26 The Hunted. Nov.
25,1958. GS: Michael Lane, Sue George, R.G. Armstrong, Francis
DeSales. Sugarfoot makes friends with a wounded soldier. He does
not know that
the man is mentally unbalanced and is being sought by lawmen as
a killer.
27 Yampa Crossing.
Dec. 9,1958. GS: Harold J. Stone, Brian Hutton, Roger Smith, Sam
Buffington, Earle Hodgins. Sugarfoot sets out to find a notorious
outlaw whose
signature is wanted by a Kansas City law firm. Sugarfoot finds
the outlaw, but soon learns that there are other men in the area
who want to capture him for the price on his head.
28 Devil to Pay.

Wynant. Sugarfoot's life is threatened when he discovers the secret
behind a strange
Indian ritual.
29 The Desperadoes. Jan. 6, 1959. GS: Jack Kruschen, Anthony George, Abby Dalton, Richard Garland, Eugene Martin, Neyle Morrow. While visiting his friend Padre John at a mission school in Texas, Sugarfoot learns of a plot to kill Mexico's President Benito Juarez.
30 The Extra Hand. Jan. 20,1959. GS: Karl Swenson, Anthony Caruso, Jack Lambert. In exchange for a horse and provisions, Sugarfoot agrees to travel with Alex Sharlakov, a former Russian seaman. After reaching Kansas, Sharlakov takes Sugarfoot to a ghost mining town, where the Russian looks for two men who had attempted to kill him.
31 The Return of the Canary Kid. Feb. 3,1959. GS: Wayde Preston, Saundra Edwards, Donald "Red" Barry, Doye O'Dell, Richard Reeves. Tom Brewster and Christopher Colt joins forces in an attempt to capture a gang of outlaws. Brewster disguises himself as the infamous Canary Kid and makes contact with the outlaws. Then the real Kid escapes from prison and heads for the gang's hideout.
32 The Mysterious Stranger. Feb. 17,1959. GS: Adam West. While working in a mine office as a clerk, Tom learns that the mine owner's lawyer is in collusion with the superintendent in swindling the firm and workers.
33 The Giant Killer. March 3,1959. GS: R.G. Armstrong, Patricia Barry, Jay North, John Litel, Jonathan Kidd, Joan Camden, Dorothy Provine. A young widow, angered by a rumor which links her to the town's political boss, threatens to blow up a hotel. Sugarfoot tries to disprove the rumors in order to save the hotel and its occupants.
34 The Royal Raiders. March 17,1959. GS: Helmut Dantine, Jacqueline Beer, Joe de Santis, Dennis Patrick, Betty Lynn. Attractive French emissary Yvette Marveux entrusts Sug_ arfoot with a fortune in diamonds. Traveling by train, the two find their trip interrupted by a group of European military men who want the diamonds.
35 The Mountain. March 31,1959. GS: Don Dubbins, Miranda Jones, Rosa Rey. Tom Brewster searches for Vic Bradley and his Indian wife, who are hiding out in a mountain area that is supposed to be haunted. Brewster has evidence which may clear Bradley of a murder charge.
36 The Twister. April 14,1959. GS: Don Dubbins, Stephen Talbot, Fred Beir, Betty Lynn, Wendy Winkelman, Robin Warge, Tom Brown. Bank robber Sid Garvin has forced his brother, a schoolteacher, to hold money he has stolen. When Garvin comes to collect his money, he holds Sugarfoot and three schoolchildren as hostages.
37 The Vultures. April 28, 1959. GS: Faith Domergue, Alan Marshall, Richard Long, Philip Ober, Roy Engel. Along the trail, Sugarfoot comes upon a young woman wandering in a daze and takes her to a nearby fort. Sugarfoot finds that the fort has recently been attacked by Indians and its sole inhabitant is an officer who had been jailed on charges of desertion.
38 TheAvengers. May 12, 1959. GS: Steve London, L~/ana Anders, Richard Cutting, Vito Scottil Dorothy Provine, Edgar Stehli. Tom Brewster and a convicted murderer called Pike are passengers on the same stagecoach when a sudden storm forces all the travelers to take shelter. While the travelers wait in a deserted cathedral, Pike's guard is shot. Sugarfoot traces the sniper to an abandoned mine shaft.
39 Small Hostage. May 26, 1959. GS: Robert Warwick, Gary Hunley, Jay Novello, Rodolfo Acosta, Joan Lora. Sugarfoot travels with Col. Cyrus Craig toward Mexico, where they are to claim the corpse of the colonel's son. En route, they are stopped by a gang of blackmailers.
40 Wolf. June 9,1959. GS: Wright King, Judy Nugent, Virginia Gregg, Ted de Corsia, William Fawcett, Frank Ferguson. Sugarfoot is working as a ranch foreman for a widow. When some of the cattle are stolen and evidence point to Wolf Wilkes, Tom comes to Wolf's defense.
41 The Trial of the Canary Kid. Sept. 15,1959. GS: Wayde Preston, Peter Brown, Ty Hardin, Frances Bavier, Adam West, Lisa Gaye, Donald "Red" Barry. The Canary Kid, Sugarfoot's cousin and bitter enemy, is charged with murder and is in need of legal advice. Sugarfoot's Aunt Nancy uses a gun to force him to take the case.
42 The Wild Bunch. Sept. 29,1959. GS: Ray Danton, Connie Stevens, Troy Donahue. Sugarfoot rides into Morgan's Ford, a seemingly quiet and friendly town, and takes a job as schoolteacher. He soon learns that the townspeople are fighting over water rights and living in fear of a gang of young toughs who are his pupils.
43 MacBrewster the Bold.
Oct. 13, 1959. GS: Myron Healey, Robin Hughes, Tudor Owen, Alan
Caillou. The citizens of a rough frontier town appoint Tom Brewster
as
sheriff. The same day three of Tom's relatives arrive to heap
another honor on the unsuspecting cowboy. Dougal, Angus and Wee
Rabbie MacBrewster have traveled from Scotland to proclaim Tom
chief of their clan. When Ben Cadigan and his gang attempt to
hold up the bank, Sugarfoot's visiting relatives come to the aid
of the chief.
44 The Gitanos. Oct. 27,1959. GS: Suzanne Lloyd, Henry Lascoe. Tom Brewster rescues a Gypsy girl and soon finds that the young lady has marriage on her mind. The Gypsy chief looks on Tom with disfavor and the cowboy must contend with a vengeful Gypsy rival.
45 The Canary Kid, Inc.
Nov. 10, 1959. GS: Wayde Preston, Fredd Wayne. Government agent
Chris Colt suspects that recent prison breaks have been supervised
by the Canary
Kid, an imprisoned outlaw. Colt asks Sugarfoot to take the Kid's
place in prison.
46 Outlaw Island. Nov. 24,1959. GS: Merry Anders, Gerald Mohr, Lisa Montell, Henry Lascoe, Robert Bray, William Bryant, Jon Lormer, Francis de Sales, Martin Garralagal Paul Fierro. Tom Brewster wants to free Sally Ormand, who is a prisoner of the Baron, ruler of an island. Learning that the islanders are ready to revolt, Tom sparks the uprising.
47 Apollo with a Gun. Dec. 8,1959. GS: Mari Blanchard, Joe Sawyer, Clinton Sundberg, Ken Clark, Billy M. Greene, Eric Sinclair, Frank Nechero. Tom Brewster is caught between a famous actress' request that he find her lost stallion, and a killer's promise of death if he does.
48 The Gaucho. Dec. 22,1959. GS: Carlos Rivas, Lori Nelson, Richard Rust. Tom Brewster meets Curro Santiago, who is romancing Ellen Conway, despite her brother's opposition. When Santiago is held for a murder that he didn't commit, Tom tries to help his new friend.
49 Journey to Provision. Jan. 5,1960. GS: Mort Mills, Maurice Manson. A mayor and a sheriff offer Tom Brewster a bribe to leave town. Tom, realizing that he has been taken for a government investigator, attempts to discover what the two men are so eager to hide.
50 The Highbinder. Jan. 19,1960. GS: H.T. Tsiang, James Hong, Don Haggerty, Judy Dan, Larry Blake, William Yip. An elderly Chinese asks Tom Brewster to help him deliver an urn containing his son's ashes to San Francisco. But the urn holds more than ashes, it's also got the map of a gold mine also.
51 Wolfpack. Feb. 2,1960. GS: Richard Coogan, Su san Crane, Richard Garland. A pack of wolves kill three people, one of them a friend of Tom Brewster's. Perplexed by the incident, Tom moves in with his dead friend's family.
52 Fernando. Feb. 16,1960. GS: Pat Comiskey, Nico Minardos, Merritt Bohn, Harry Bellaver. If he defeats the boxing champ, Fernando will use his winnings to save an old mission. But Fernando and his trainer find they~ve taken on more than just a bout - a local gambler is after the land the mission is b uilt on.
53 Blackwater Swamp.
March 1, 1960. GS: Robert Colbert, George Wallace, Kasey Rogers,
Chuck Essegian. Tom Brewster tries to bring an estranged father
and son together.
His efforts, however, at undermined by the father's new wife,
who is willing to commit murder to get control of her hus-
band's property.
54 Return to Boot Hill. March 15, 1960. GS: Gary Vinson, Alan Hewitt, Diane McBain, Hanley Stafford. Mayor Plummer agrees to help Tom Brewster clear a young man of a murder charge. But Tom gets suspicious when he learns about the mayor's connection with the defendant's sister.
55 Vinegaroom. March 29,1960. GS: Richard Devon, Frank Ferguson, Ric Roman, Eugene Iglesias, Brad Weston, Don C. Harvey. Townsfolk welcome Tom Brewster to town by charging him with murder and sentencing him to the gallows. But judge Roy Bean is a fan of actress Lily Langtry, and Tom tries to take advantage of this to save his neck.
56 The Corsican. April 12, 1960. GS: Mala Powers, Harry Shannon, Paul Picerni. Tom Brewster helps a New Englander and his daughter take a wounded Corsican to the trading post for help. But there is no assistance waiting, only a warlike band of Sioux.
57 Blue Bonnet Stray. April 26, 1960. GS: Alan Baxter, Janet De Gore, Wynn Pearce, Dolores Donlon, Douglas Kennedy, Charles Fredericks. As the train pulls out, Tom Brewster notices that an infant is on board, but its mother is still in the station. He returns the child, unaware that he is bringing it closer to death.
58 The Long Dry. April 10, 1960. GS: Jennifer West, Francis J. McDonald, Robert Armstrong, John McCann. Jericho Dooley's town is plagued by drought. But he is determined to float off in his ark, taking Tom Brewster and Anne Carmody with him.
59 Funeral at Forty Mile. May 24, 1968. GS: Donald May, Kent Taylor, John Qualen, Louise Fletcher. Tom Brewster arrives in town to help his cousin fun for office. Soon, some strange things start happening. The local hanging tree is struck by lightning, and an empty coffin is left in the middle of the street.
60 The Captive Locomotive. June 7,1960. GS: Jeanne Cooper, Horace MacMahon, Rex Reason, Dan Sheridan. As Sugarfoot comes on the scene, a railroad is gobbling up land in a Western valley, forcing out the landowners.
61 Shadow Catcher. Sept. 26,1960. Sugarfoot becomes involved with an army officer who is trying to provoke a war with the Indians to get land that is rich in gold.
62 A Noose for Nora. Oct. 24,1960. GS: Madlyn Rhue, Robert Colbert, Charles Arnt, Tristram Coffin. Tom "Sugarfoot" Brewster sees Nora Sutton shoot down a wealthy landowner. But Judge Lawson names Brewster to be her defense attorney.
63 Man from Medora. Nov. 21,1960. GS: Albert Carrier, Peter Breck, Ray Walker, Jean Blake, Dorothea Lord, John Milford, Mickey Simpson, Roscoe Ates. When Jake Sloane can't take the measure of a dude named Theodore in a barbershop brawl, Sugarfoot decides to find out more about the dude. One thing he finds out is that his last name is Roosevelt.
64 Welcome Enemy. Dec. 26,1960. GS: Glenn Strange, Suzanne Lloyd, J. Edward McKinley, Hal Torey, Gregg Palmer, Janet Lake, Bruce Gordon, Bob Wienskol Grady Sutton. Chief Red Wing of the Sioux Indians is on his way to Chicago for a conference with President Grant. Sugarfoot has been hired to accompany the chief to see that he doesn't get assassinated.
65 Toothy Thompson. Jan. 16,1961. GS: Jack Elam, John Marley, Stephen Courtleigh, Gregory Morton. John Brice is in town to investigate charges of corruption. When someone tries to murder Brice, Toothy Thompson, a long-time troublemaker, is jailed as a suspect.
66 Shepherd with a Gun. Feb. 6,1961. GS: Raoul De Leon, Regis Toomey, Rafael Campos, Don Haggerty, Nancy Hadley. John Peel, a greedy rancher, tries to use grazing land belonging to a shepherd named Joachin. The shepherd can't defend his property, but his son Pablo can, and he's got a gun to help him.
67 Angel. March 6,1961. GS: Ty Hardin, Cathy O'Donnell, Jack Elam, Bruce Gordon, John Pickard, Frank Albertson, Ann Robinson, Percy Helton, Max Baer, Charles Fredericks, John Cason. Sugarfoot and his pal Toothy Thompson don't mind helping out Sheriff Boyce with a gang of killers, but they would like to know just who the leader of the gang is.
68 Stranger in Town. March 27,1961. GS: Jacques Aubuchon, Stephen Lander, Erika Peters. Sugarfoot loads the bodies of two murderers onto a horse and brings them into town. Although the killers shot each other, the townspeople are convinced that Sugarfoot is the fast gun who got them both.
69 Trouble at Sand Springs. April 17,1961. GS: Suzanne Storrs, Craig Hill, Tommy Rettig, Ross Elliott, Dayton Lummis. Jimmy and Rance Benbow are accused of murder, and Sugarfoot is appointed their defense counsel. He knows he has got a tough case when he sees that the prosecuting attorney is Rhonda Rigsby, the daughter of the murdered man.
