A Casemate Wall from the Time of Solomon

June 30, 2006 Tel Hazor
In area B at Hazor was this casemate wall dated to the time of Solomon (Iron Age I). A casemate wall was one with chambers that were filled or unfilled. Some people interpreted the casemate sections as houses built into the wall. Sometimes casemates were filled with dirt and stones to strengthen the structure. Numerous casemates have been dated to the time of Solomon. Hazor was in the upper Jordan Valley between Mt. Hermon and Lake Tiberias/Galilee. This was the south wall of the ancient city destroyed by an Assyrian invasion.
