Welcome to the WOW Christmas Collection! Snowglobes date back to the 1880's. One made in France in 1889 featured the Eiffel Tower. They became popular in the U.S. as advertising gimmicks in the 1940's. Sometimes referred to as "icons of kitsch", they are produced with an astounding array of subjects in the globes and fascinate many collectors. They are also called snowdomes, waterballs, snowscenes, waterglobes, blizzard weights or shake 'em ups. |

If you would like to make a snowglobe of your own, there is a Snowglobe WebRing. Lots of sites showing "how to" and snowglobes you can download for your own use. Fun!! If you are a collector, check Global Shakeup's World-of-Snowdomes. Sites with some great vintage snowglobes are Great Shakes! and Vintage Snowdomes. I liked this one just for the name - Prairie Dome Companion. Harry's Snowdome Collection has some neat examples of various snowglobes. One of the more interesting concepts in snowdomes can be seen at Biblical Plague Domes |
