YEAR 2002 UPDATES Current 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 1999 1998
December
18, 2002 The next
installment in the Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior
series, Chapter 2.5 "Hostages" is now online with 7
color 3D images and over 1100 words of text.
This installment wraps up Chapter 2 and sets the
stage for the remainder of the novel. Also, there is a
cool new image of the Airborne Heavy Carrier
"Sparrow," which can be seen in the Technology of
Cyberdrome section. All pages were also updated
with more detailed information for each piece of
hardware. Click here
to jump there now. Last but not
least, while looking through our news archives, I
noticed that we began working on the original
version of the Cyberdrome novel in December of
1998, which means that this month is our 4 year
anniversary. To quote Flynn in the movie TRON,
"Hooray for our side." December
02, 2002 The December
Edition of Cyberdrome is now online. This month we
hope to have the next installment of Cyberdrome:
Emergent Behavior, called "Hostages," uploaded for
your reading and viewing pleasure. In the mean
time, check out the Cyberdrome Technology section.
It was just updated so that you can click on the
images to see larger versions. There are currently
15 technologies highlighted, but many more are
coming. Other
news: Found another web site featuring
Cyberdrome.org in their "online stories" page,
bringing the total to 45 sites. That's a lot of
free advertising :) Visitors totaled over 900 last
month, up about 100 from October. November
28, 2002 Just updated the
new section, Cyberdrome Technology, which
highlights some of the technology and hardware we
are creating for the series. There are three
sections; Earth-Tech (Technology used in the "real"
version of Earth), Grid-Tech (Technology used on
the Cyberdrome Memory Grid) and Sim-Tech
(Technology used inside the Simulated
Earths). November
21, 2002 We are working on
a new section called Cyberdrome Technology, which
will highlight some of the high tech vehicles we
are creating, such as Tracers and Survey Vessels,
as well as outline some of the advanced
technologies we are introducing in the story, such
as the Fluidal Computer and Neural Interface
chambers. Also, we reduced
font size on many pages, including those in
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior, to match the size
shown on this page. Also reduced thumbnail images
in Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior by 25% to fit with
the smaller font. Remember, you can manually adjust
your browser's default font size, but if too many
people complain, I will make adjustments.
November
06, 2002 Updated the
Cyberdrome.org main page again - now it has a
background image similar to the Rhea-fx.com main
page. Also, Dave has been designing the new Survey
Vessels and other air and ground vehicles this past
few weeks. These 3D vehicles will be used in
the story later on. He also made a few new images
of his 3D model of Paramount Picture's
Enterprise NX-01, which can be seen at his personal
home page; Dave.Rhea-fx.com. He he is also busy
working on the images for the next installment of
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior. October
23, 2002 Chapter 2.2
"Liar" was just updated to include information
which will be crucial down the line. This
installment is important because it explains what
Cyberdrome really is. Chapter 2.2 also contains one
new image. October
07, 2002 You have been
eagerly waiting over 3 months and now it is finally
here! The most anticipated installment in the
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior series. Chapter 2.4
"Sentinel" is now online with 10 color
3D images and over 1700 words of text. Also,
the format for the story has been changed to allow
the user to adjust the screen font size in their
browser (if they wish). We also changed to black
text on a white background to facilitate both
online reading and printing. September
29, 2002 Story
Update: Two of the eight images for Chapter
2.4 "Sentinel" have been completed. To get an
advanced look at what the part will look like,
check out the main page at Rhea-fx.com. It was made
using a one of the new images (the story image is
much higher resolution, of course). September
10, 2002 We are still
working on the images for Chapter 2.4 "Sentinel"
This part is taking longer than expected due to the
complexity of the images, but this will be
rectified once Dave get his new graphics computer
up and running. So far, the images I have seen
are mind-blowing, so it should be worth the long
wait. August
23, 2002 Series update:
Due to the increased complexity of upcoming
3D images in our Cyberdrome Series, Dave has
decided to replace his 400 MHz graphics computer
with a 2.4 GHz (that's 2,400 MHz) version. The
upgrade will also feature a top of the line
graphics card and blazing fast system memory.
Current "final" rendering time averages 4 to 6
hours per image, or about 24 to 36 hours per part -
that is after the many days it takes to design and
build the 3D sets and props for each part).
Once completed, this expensive upgrade will allow
Dave to create the images for our illustrated
series much faster. August
17, 2002 Web Site
Changes: All of the Artificial Life Simulator
pages, both DOS and Atari versions, are now located
at the main Rhea-fx.com site. This includes the
Simulator Image Gallery. The Cyberdrome.org site is
now entirely devoted to the Cyberdrome Science
Fiction Series. July
16, 2002 The next
installment (Chapter 2.4 "Sentinel") of our online
story, Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior is currently
under development. The writing is in final form,
but the images will take some more time. This will
be the first part taking place inside the digital
world of Cyberdrome, and the images are very
complex. Stay tuned - you won't be disappointed.
Changes: Chapter 1.1 "Dead City" and Chapter
2.2 "Liar" were both rewritten (slightly)
during this past week, to make them fit better with
the evolving story arc. June
13, 2002 The next
installment (Chapter 2.3 "Intruder") of our online
story, Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior is now online.
In addition, the Previews of Chapter 2.4
"Sentinel" and Chapter 2.5 "Hostages" are much
longer now, giving you a better feel for what is
coming next. Also, Chapter 1.4 "Connection" was
rewritten to include a previously deleted chase
part. Also, Dave just redesigned the TRACER, a
cyberspace vehicle that will first be seen in
Chapter 2.4 "Sentinel" and will feature prominently
in much of the rest of the story. April
26, 2002 While Dave puts
final touches on the images for the next
installment (Chapter 2.3) of our online story,
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior, Joe has updated the
Atari Cyberdrome page with new screen shots taken
directly from the groundbreaking shareware game, in
honor of its 10 year anniversary. April
15, 2002 Dave has finally
completed the virtual sets for the next installment
(Chapter 2.3). He is now posing and placing the
virtual actors on the sets, setting up the virtual
camera positions, and creating the final images for
the part. Please stay tuned - it won't be long now.
Also, there are more subtle changes made in the
look and layout of our online story, Cyberdrome:
Emergent Behavior. April
05, 2002 There is a new
futuristic look to our online story, Cyberdrome:
Emergent Behavior - click here to jump directly to
Chapter 1.1. Dave added one new image to the
beginning of Chapter 2.2. Read our newly updated
Foreword page for more details on the progress of
the book. March
25, 2002 Dave Rhea has
added a new section to his web site;
Dave.Rhea-fx.com. It is called Virtual Character
Design, and in it you can learn how some of the
virtual actors from Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior
were created. March
13, 2002 Larger inline
images were added to the current installments of
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior. Even though these
images show more detail than the previous versions,
it is still worth the download time to click on the
inline images to see the full size versions. Also,
Dave is currently working on the virtual set for
the next installment (part 7 "Intruder"). Since the
writing for the first half of the book has been
completed, once all of the virtual sets are
finished, we will be able to upload new
installments much more quickly. Please stay tuned
for Chapter 2.3 - "Intruder" - Its where the real
action begins. March
05, 2002 Dave Rhea had
added 8 new images of Paramount Picture's
Enterprise NX-01 to his online portfolio. Each
image was hand built by Dave using a combination of
Poser-4 and Vue d'Esprit-4. All of Dave's digital
artwork can be seen at his web site;
Dave.Rhea-fx.com February
25, 2002 News Flash!! Dave
Rhea was selected as Featured Artist by Science
Fiction Weekly (part of the Scifi Channel's web
site; SciFi.com) and provided cover art for this
week's issue. February
8, 2002 The next
installment of Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior,
Chapter 2.2, is now online! January
22, 2002 Just did a
technical rewrite of all installments of
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior. I am currently
half way through the book, and I found that I
needed to add several small details to the early
parts to keep them consistent with what is coming
later. Also, Dave is still working on the digital
sets for the next installment. January
16, 2002 Just did a
rewrite of Chapter 1.1 of Cyberdrome: Emergent
Behavior. It is now written from the viewpoint of
the Telebot, with no reference to who is watching
the broadcast. January
08, 2002 Six new digital
images of the dead city added to Chapter 1.1 of
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior. Also updated the
entire web site with new graphics. January
04, 2002 Happy New Year!!
Our biggest new year's resolution is to finish
Cyberdrome: Emergent Behavior. Other planned
additions to this site include an instructional
pages on how to build virtual sets and virtual
props in POSER-4 (and you thought it was only good
for making people.) |
