The following information on the soldiers of the 2nd NC Union Volunteers is provided by the
Civil War Plymouth Pilgrims Descendants Society
Though the Regimental Headquarters for the 2nd NC was located at Beaufort, NC, all of the following members enlisted at Plymouth, NC, and most were present at the Battle of Plymouth, which took place 17-20th April, 1864. The 1st NC, to which the 2nd NC was consolidated with on 27 Feb 1865, mustered out on 27 Aug 1865.

BASNIGHT, Hezekiah - Private, Co. L, 1st NC Union Volunteers. Born about 1817 in Tyrell Co., NC, the son of Jacob & Polly (Messer) Basnight. Married Brittania Bateman about 1845. Enlisted 20 April 1863 at Plymouth, NC at age 44 from Tyrrell Co., NC. As per 1st Sgt Nehemiah Ambrose, on 22 July 1863 Hezekiah was thrown from his mount causing a double hernia and a head wound while making a charge at Tarboro, NC (Potter's Raid). Discharged 26 Feb 1864 due to disability at Washington, NC. Hezekiah went to Plymouth, NC and was operating a store as a civilian. During the Battle of Plymouth, Hezekiah was given a gun and told to guard the jail. He was seen fighting in the area of the courthouse alongside John Patrick & Hezekiah Jackson, both of whom had recently been discharged from Co. L, 1st NC Union Volunteers. All three were captured 20 April 1864 at Plymouth and held captive at Castle Thunder Prison in Richmond, VA. Admitted 11 Nov 1864 to General Hospital #13 due to Congestio Cerebrew and died 15 Nov 1864. Michael Phelps

Died 22 May 1900 and is buried in the Alden Bazemore Family Cemetery, near Windsor, Bertie Co., PA.

Enlisted in Co. B, 2nd NC on 1 Dec `63 at Plymouth, NC at age 22 from Bertie Co., NC . MIA at the Battle of Plymouth. Reported as captured, but survived war and returned home. Married Mary Ann Outlaw on 1 Dec 1868 in Bertie County. Died 13 Jan 1887 in Bertie Co., NC.

FULCHER, Joseph H. - Sergeant, Co. E. Born in Washington, DC or NC. Enlisted 16 April `62 into Co. G, 17th NC Infantry, a 19 year old Farmer from Martin Co., NC. Deserted 10 Sept `63. On 29 Sept `63 he took Oath of Allegiance to the Union. Enlisted 28 Oct `63 into the 2nd NC at age 21 from Washington Co., NC. Captured 20 April `64 at Plymouth, NC. "Murdered".

Arrested 15 Oct 1862 for an unauthorized visit to his family. Escaped 15 Nov `62 & deserted while being taken to jail. Enlisted 29 Oct `63 into the 2nd NC. Captured 20 April `64 at Plymouth, NC. Identified as a deserter, court martialed on 28 Nov `64, and sentenced to be shot. Pardoned & allowed to rejoin the 61st NC. Surrendered 3 May `65 and was assigned to Co. C, 1st NC Infantry. Mustered out 27 June `65. Died 16 May 1872 of pneumonia.
