On May 16, the CSCC had 17 members in attendance. In the USCF-rated ladder games (G90), Josh Bloomer blitzed Joe Fromme and Joe Pahk pounced on Jerry Maier. The rest of the members played in a four round challenge tournament (G15). The lowest rated participant chose four opponents to play. Then the next lowest chose four opponents. This continued until all players had chosen opponents or were chosen for each round. Here are the results:

I was wondering if you place free ads in your newsletters

This week’s game was an easy one to choose. First, it comes from someone other than me. Second, it comes from the event at the club this week. Third, it comes from someone who had a loss published by me earlier. When I started publishing chess games, I made a promise to the losers that I would use a game of their choice to compensate them for having had to endure getting a loss published. I have had at least one person take advantage of the loser’s privilege. Well, when Bill Weihmiller showed me one of his games from this week’s challenge tournament, I immediately thought, “Hey, Bill is a loser. He can use the loser’s privilege.” So, I asked him if I could publish the game. He was a little reluctant to give me the game, so I offered to copy down the game myself. I thought I should go the extra mile to make sure any loser doesn’t harbor any hard feelings about having a past loss published. Especially in Bill’s case, since the last time I wrote about him, he was kind of blindsided [http://home.att.net/~cs.chess/newsletter/Tue_Jul_27_v1.html]. He isn’t on my email list, but he typed his name into a search engine and my newsletter came up in the top spot. He wasn’t too happy with my sense of humor back then, but now, hopefully, I have more tactfully explained my position on losers better. I love losers. If it weren’t for the losers, how could we tell who the winners are? And it is possible that this newsletter will replace the one he didn’t like in the top spot on the search engines. After all, publishing a game is not about punishing the losers, but rather about getting my website more hits!
