Red Wing Crocks: The Big Clay!

RRP Crown 50 gallon crock with lid Lid for 50 or 60 gallon crock Enscribed size on lid
How did this sneak in here?! I just couldn't resist buying this 50 gallon "Crown" crock with original lid! It was made by the Robinson Ransbottom Pottery Company (RRP Co) in Roseville, OH. The inside of this crock has a dark brown glaze. The crock has a brass drain mounted in the bottom. The lid is enscribed with "50.60" meaning that it fit a 50 or a 60 gallon crock. RRP started in about 1900 and is still in business. However, the black crown emblem on my crock was only used until the mid-1940s even though the 50 gallon crock size was made until about 1972. This is when the crown color was changed to blue. The lids were discontinued in the early 1950's. For reference, the crown logo was changed in the early 1970's to incorporate the letters "USA" (in a blue crown, of course). You can get more info on RRP from their web site (www.ransbottompottery.com).
