CROSSROADS DOUBLE TAKE JAKE *VSBD
January 1985 ~ August 1999

Crossroads Double Take Jake, was indeed a, *very special black dog. I guess you could say that Jakey was the 'original' Flat Coat of Crossroads. Rescued as a pup, we made a deal...I'd take him home and look after him and all he had to do was love me for 15 years. Who knew Jake would try so hard to keep that promise.

In our time together, Jake was one of my most powerful teachers. Through him, I experienced the joy of unconditional love, loyalty and devotion. Jake taught me about kindness in a way that no person could have. That lesson, I will carry with me forever. I know it was my love for Jake that lead me to a CROSSROAD that truly changed my life.  A life that quickly became filled with other Flat Coats, hectic training schedules, dog shows and trials of all kinds, and a variety of doggy people.  I also know, that it was Jake's love for me, that always made me hurry home from all these things, just to see his wagging tail and gentle face.

Jake was the "favorite uncle" to our other Flats. He taught them all to swim. As pups Emma, Miles, and Gloria, all held onto his tail while he pulled them around the ponds and creeks we play in. Jake set the pace for wrestle mania,  showed the others the best short cuts through the woods and even how to lay down and enjoy their meals at day's end. Still ... all this time later, Gloria still waits for him at the forest edge ... certain he's just a few strides behind.
I often think I hear the shuffle of his feet in the leaves on a crisp fall day. That thought makes me smile.

Despite my heavy heart for the loss of my friend, I have decide to keep Jake's page up for now. A tribute to a dear friend and a wonderful dog. And while I know that he is no longer by my side, Jake will be ... forever in my heart.
