Musical Instruments

Shakers

Materials

  • Container: 
 Film canister, plastic egg, small plastic drink bottle, or paper towel tube 
  • Filling: 
 Rice, beans, pebbles, dried corn or sand (each "filling" creates a different sound - so be creative and make several different ones) 
  • Decoration:
 Paint, markers, stickers or pictures or glitter  for decorating
  • Other:
 Glue or tape

Instructions

  • Decorate the container of choice- paint it, paste on pictures, draw on it
  • Fill the container with choice of "filling"
  • Glue or tape the lid of the container (for paper towel tube squeeze ends closed and tape)
  • Enjoy the sounds of the musical instrument, play along with your favorite song

Kazoos 
Materials

  • Toilet paper or paper towel tube
  • Crayons and/or markers and a pencil
  • Stickers 
  • Wax paper 
  • Rubber band 

 

Instructions
  • Color the paper tube and decorate with stickers
  • Use a rubber band to secure the wax paper onto one end of the tube
  • Using a pencil poke 4 to 6 holes in the wax paper 
  • Talk, hum, or make sounds into the open end of the tube 
  • Enjoy the sounds of this musical instrument and play along with your favorite song
