A Celtic Song

the lilting voice and beautiful music of Brigid Gore

Brigid Kate Mc Avey Gore is second generation Irish and Scot. The first songs she ever performed were from a book of Irish melodies her paternal grandfather gifted to her grandmother at the turn of the LAST century, 1904.

Brigid sings in the sean-nos or “old style”her melodic voice carries the emotion of the subject matter.  Sean-nos, or without accompaniment, singing reflects the lives of the people who wrote the songs. Usually the songs deal with life, love and SCANDAL typically found in small rural communities.

Brigid discovered her talent for singing purely by accident.  Though music is a part of her heritage she has had no formal training, just the natural gift of her angelic voice.  She is the youngest in a family of twelve children, the daughter of a Baker.  Her father Donald was stationed with the US Army Air Corps in Belfast in 1943 and while there, he had a song published by Boosey Music Publishing House.  Growing up, they always had a piano in the house and her mother sang as she worked.  Mom’s favorite, Greensleeves, is a staple for her.

Brigid performs at many military functions and Celtic events. She makes her home in Connecticut with her husband Richard and Hercules, her boxer mascot.   The proceeds from the sales of her CD are donated to the “Marines Helping Wounded Marines” charity, a program that provides goods and services to injured Marines recuperating at Walter Reed and Bethesda Hospitals.   For more information on this program visit their website at www.deptofmdmcl.org .
