T.A.I.L.S. Launches 3rd Annual Spay Day Event To Help Animals

In conjunction with a state proclamation from Governor Jodi Rell designating Feb. 22, 2005, as Spay Day throughout the state of Connecticut, T.A.I.L.S. is kicking off their 3rd Annual Spay Day event and is aiming to spay/neuter 100 dogs, cats, and rabbits during our month-long celebration.  T.A.I.L.S. is seeking donations for the event which will also include awareness and educational events.  The event, which is part of Doris Day Animal Foundation’s nationwide Spay Day 2005, relies on local veterinarians, businesses and individuals to offset the cost associated with spay/neutering.

“Last year we were able to spay/neuter 74 companion animals. We think we can exceed that number in 2005. This is an animal-loving community and hopefully, folks will want to help in the name of animal welfare,” said Dorrie Harris, Spay Day Director.

There are many ways people can help – from encouraging their veterinarian to contribute to making an individual donation of a $60 sponsorship of a spay.  The more donations we receive – both in-kind and monetary - the more animals we save; it’s that simple,” Harris said.

“We believe the veterinary profession has a moral imperative to improve the quality of each individual animal’s life as well as taking an active role in population management, and spay/neuter programs accomplish both,” said Dr. Patricia Hart, the new partner at County Veterinary Hospital in Fairfield.  County Veterinary Hospital was the leading sponsor for spays and neuters for the TAILS Spay Day event in 2004 and has graciously made a similar commitment for 2005.

As part of their Spay Day activities, T.A.I.L.S. will be holding a Pet Healthcare Q & A at 7pm on March 31 at Norwalk City Hall. This forum will feature a panel of animal care and training experts who will discuss and take audience questions about companion animals. The event is free and all are welcome. In an effort to further heighten spay/neuter awareness, T.A.I.L.S. will also be making store visits to Choice Pet Supply stores throughout February and March.
