The Sheer Bliss rose, a bare root mail order purchase from Jackson and Perkins, grew to the tallest plant in the garden in it's first year (in later years it was one of the three tallest). By the beginning of September it was six feet five inches tall and still growing, the stem on the tallest bud is 48 straight inches. The flowers on this plant are the lightest shade of pink, at first look you would think they were something like off white. The word Delicate could be used to describe this shade of pink. The heart shaped pedals are darker pink in the center then they are on the outside. |
Sheer Bliss has an incredible fragrance, you can tell they are in bloom as you approach the plant outside.
The plant forms large flowers about 6" across, the buds take their time to open as they keep growing and growing. While not a extremely prolific rose it's first year, the flowers are extremely beautiful and worth the wait between them. It produces well up to July, then takes the warm summer off to come back again in September.
In the spring the plant will explode into action, you'd swear if you watched it you would be able to see it growing. There was no black spot on this plant.
