. The buds, while they look very red here, are actually almost purple. They start off with a perfect rose scent and have a deep intoxicating scent. The flowers make excellent cut flowers as they take their time opening, and when mixed with some whites of a similar size form a beautiful arrangement. The plant grows to about 30" tall and 27"wide. Completely unaffected by blackspot no matter how wet it was, it made up for it by being an aphid magnet. Melody Perfume had more aphids then any other plant in the garden, and attracted beetles early in the season. The plant loves to grow it's side buds, so if you are looking for single flowers on a stem you have to keep up with the debudding. Very prolific early in the season, ten giant flowers the first ten days of picking. |
