Stefan Alexandres, an Athenian by birth, began his apprenticeship in a metal shop in Athens, Greece at the age of 12. His training was grounded in the traditional Byzantine style, which expresses visually the theology of the Eastern Orthodox Religion. Named for the first martyr of the Christian Church, Stefan first worked with the most elemental of metals, iron, copper, brass and silver. Looking back, during these early formative years to global experiences he found himself learning repousse, sculpting, drawing and painting. His early work, in the manner of historical and inventive images, underscores his current exploration in repousse, patination and mixed media sculptures.
Happy New Year to you and your family! Great to hear from you. I can't thank you enough for the beautiful pieces you made for my daughter and my family. We had our daughter, Breanna, baptized over the holidays, and the Priest performing the ceremony blessed Breanna's Cross you made at her baptism. The gift will mean that much more now for the rest of her life!
My wife is very happy with the two pieces. They are beautiful. I gave out your information to several people who asked about the artwork. I hope you and your family have a blessed year in 2005!
I'll be contacting you again hopefully later this year if we are fortunate enough to have a second child so that you can create another beautiful cross.
