Description: 1 X Cot, Folding, M-1938, w/White Canvas, subject item is identical to the M-1938 Army Folding Cot (Army Stock No. 26-C-3033) except for the Canvas Cover which is White here, in lieu of the Olive Drab Cover, Cot, Folding, Canvas Slip-On (Army Stock No. 26-C-3084-50) ! All elements are identical, while folding system & straps also remain the same – Remark: although, I’m not sure, I think this is the famous ‘Gold Medal’ item, can any reader confirm this ? if so, kindly contact the Webmaster – many thanks

Description: 1 X Container Assembly, Aerial Delivery, Type A-4, Olive Drab, for miscellaneous supplies – this particular one bears markings indicating Medical Supplies (black/white, see picture) and White Square + Red Cross (other side, not shown) it further has twice the word Caution (black) on the container’s edges – inside label has following markings: Container Assembly, Aerial Delivery, Type A-4, Spec No. 94-40312, S/N2000/170400, P/N4QM8297, Contract Nos. AF 33 038-20745 + AF 33 038-23458, mfd by Indianapolis Tent & Awning, US Property, 1944 – A-4 Containers are used, since according to FM 31-30 Tactics and Technique of Air-Borne Troops May 20, 1942 … Owing to the difficulties of evacuation, medical supplies must be ample – therefore provision must be made for resupply by air - the Manual further describes the above equipment … Delivery Unit, General Type A-4 consists of a rectangular box-type container (30 x 24 x 12 inches), a 24-foot circular cotton canopy, and a conventional pull-off pack assembly, the duck bag is reinforced by plywood and metal, and is provided with suspension rings and full harness; inside the bag may be placed 2 cardboard or light wooden boxes, or supplies without use of boxes …TM 71-220 Technical Training of Parachutists 27 September 1946 states … The A-4 Container is used chiefly when there is need for heavy padding to protect fragile equipment e.g. radios and medical supplies, the A-5 Container carries general equipment for the Squad as well as weapons not jumped by the personnel, and it is also used for extra ammunition; the A-6 Container is used mainly for rations, water, radio parts and similar items, ammunition is also usually carried in the A-7 Containers - Remark: other Aerial Containers used by Airborne Forces are Unit Type A-5, General Type A-6, and Special Type A-7 – it should be noted that for quick identification purposes, colored canopies were used as well as a system of large numbers or letters either stenciled or sewed on the canopies themselves (I have not been able to trace the Stock Item Nos. of above equipment – all data are welcome – thanks for your help)

(Crutches, Adjustable, Item #7-777-325 (postwar n°) – period 1938-1945 – from the collection of Alain Batens)

Description: 1 X Pair of Adjustable Crutches, showing extension system for shortening or lengthening lower part, unpainted wood, varnish coated, both supports (for armpit) have been covered with OD canvas, crutches bear Red markings of 48th Field Hospital (=3d US Army unit) – Remark: any help in tracing the WW2 Item number would be very much appreciated – please note similar crutches are still around in some military installations
