Probably the nicest of a few RD's I have owned; ca. 1981
Yamaha's RD series (RD60, RD125, RD250, RD350, RD400, +?) were enormously successful descendants of less distinguished motorcycles of the late 1960's and early 1970's. Using reed-valve two-stroke engines, RD's combined zippy acceleration with responsive but relatively stable handling. Racing versions had a stellar track record. A stock RD could corner fast enough to drag its pipes or the footpeg bracket, which usually resulted in an asphalt belly-flop for the rider. (Trust me; I've been there!)
Aside from better rear shocks, Toomey pipes, and rearset pegs, this bike has mostly cosmetic modifications. I trimmed fenders and painted everything black. Front drum brakes were scary!
25 years later, I have another RD cafe project in the works. Stay tuned!
