Jaguar D-type

Jaguar D-type

Pardon me while I swoon!

If I love XK120's and Mk II's, then I lust for D-types. This 1950's Batmobile has all the right (vintage) stuff: DOHC 6-cylinder engine, mechanical fuel injection, disk brakes, and erotic styling.

Working from the XK120, Jaguar developed the earlier C-type (XK120C) and these D-types for international endurance racing: Le Mans, and all that. In the early-to-mid-1950's, Jaguar factory and client teams won the 24 hours of Le Mans in three years of five. The D-type's extended nose and asymmetric fin were meant to improve cooling and aerodynamic stability at high-speed tracks. Jag's E-types (and the short-lived XK-SS) are clear technical and stylistic descendants of the D-type.
