Allatoona Fault off Emerson-Allatoona Road

On the shore of Lake Allatoona about 200 meters left of a Civil War monument (Battle of Allatoona Pass), the Allatoona Fault separates Dahlonega Gold Belt amphibolite from schist of the Great Smokies group.

On the shore of Lake Allatoona, across the bridge from Little River Marina, amphibolite (metabasalt) of the Dahlonega Gold Belt is well exposed.

Two cut faces expose mafic schist loaded with garnets like raisin bread.

About a mile west of I-575, a construction cut behind CVS Pharmacy exposes sheared and faulted gneiss and amphibolite.
