On the left, Ridge and Valley Cambrian shale from Proto-North America's continental shelf, bearing fossil trilobites; on the right, metamorphosed volcanic sediments possibly from a back-arc basin. Between -- sloping up and left from near Rachel's foot -- the Carters Dam Fault.
