Store Events - April 14, 4:00 PM Time: Wednesday, April 14, 2004 4:00 PM Location: Alabama Booksmith Title of Event: Jennifer Horne, Loretta Cobb, Andrew Glaze, and Jim Mersmann Signing Many Southerners, despite the leveling effects of modern communications and migration, hold tight to the view that the South is the most culturally distinct region in America. If you asked them why they believe this, some Southerners would answer that it is their unique relationship to the land that sets them apart, a product of the South's historically agrarian economy. Many Southerners, unlike other regions of the country, are only a generation removed from the farm. To celebrate this special attachment and love of the land, the Booksmith Gang is thrilled to host a signing forWorking the Dirt: An Anthology of Southern Poets, edited by Jennifer Horne, poet and freelance writer. Working the Dirt is a collection of poems about gardening and farming by some of the South's finest poets, including Wendell Berry, Henry Taylor, Andrew Glaze, Robert Morgan, Nikki Giovanni, John Crowe Ransom, James Applewhite, C. D. Wright, Rodney Jones, Robert Penn Warren, Naomi Shihab Nye, Jim Mersmann, Loretta Cobb, and many others. We are fortunate to have three of the contributors, Loretta Cobb, Andrew Glaze, and Jim Mersmann, joining Jennifer for the signing. Jennifer Horne grew up in Arkansas and has lived in Alabama since 1986. She received an M.A. in English and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama, has taught Englis and poetry at the elementary and university level, and has been a journal, magazine, and book editor. Her poems, essays, and reviews have appeared in many journals, including Carolina Quarterly and the Birmingham Poetry Review. She gardens on Canyon Lake, outside Tuscaloosa, Alabama. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Working the Dirt: An Anthology by Horne, Jennifer Format: Trade Paperback Price: $20.00 Published: NewSouth Books, 2003 Inventory Status: Special Order
