A Fun Game

Quilles, Kayles, kettle, kittle, or skittles is a bowling game! It originated in France and was very popular in England during the 14th Century. During this time, they threw sheep joints at the pins (or whatever they had handy!) In Germany and Netherlands a ball was rolled to the pins. It eventually made it's way to America where it became bowling.

How to play:

The 9 pins were set up 3 to a row and put at an angle to the player. The player grabbed the sheep joint that was hanging from a post next to the board with the pins on it. The player swung the ball at the pins and whatever pins were knocked over, that is how many points he or she got. The center pin was called the "kingpin" and was worth 9 points. All other pins were worth 1 point. The players each took a turn until someone reached the agreed upon total.
