Adobe Acrobat Reader Help Page

If you have trouble viewing or printing the files in the File Cabinet, please read the Helpful Hints below before emailing me. All of the files below on my web site are in PDF format, so you'll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in to view and print the files. Unfortunately, some people seem to have difficulties that can't be resolved and they have to find another computer to use for printing out the files. You might try using a computer at your school or local library. If you have been able to print out my files before, but begin having new problems, feel free to email me. Sometimes the problem is on my end and I have to reload the file. If all else fails, try to find that technology guru at your school and ask for help!  ~ Laura

Helpful Hints:

  • After you download the program, you have to find the file on your hard drive and click on it to install it. (Some people have said they had to "unzip" the file, but since I didn't have to do this I can't give you any help in this area.)
  • If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, check to make sure it is version 3.0 or higher.
  • Some of the files do not appear correctly in when viewed in the browser window; however, they seem to print correctly. If a page looks strange, try printing it out.
  • Most people can just click on the file and the Adobe Acrobat Reader opens automatically. Other people have told me that they have to find the Acrobat Reader program on their hard drive and open it FIRST. Then (with Adobe Acrobat running in the background) they go to my web page and click on the file to open it.
  • Some people have told me that they can print the smaller files, but not the larger ones. This may have to do with your computer's memory. These people have asked a friend or spouse at work to print the files for them.
  • If you want to save a PDF file to your hard drive, right click the file's LINK on the File Cabinet page. You will not be able to save the file while you are viewing it in the Acrobat Reader window. Instead, you will have to use the back arrow and go back to the page that contains the LINK. Position your cursor over the words that link to the file and right click on the words. You should have an option that allows you to save the file. (However, some people tell me that they are automatically prompted to save the file each time they open it. If this is true for you, you won't need to follow the above steps.)
