Our online tutorials
are live audio and chat sessions that meet for an hour and a half once a
week during the school year. The students and online tutor log in to a
virtual classroom using web conferencing at the appointed time and then are able
to communicate via audio, chatboxes, and whiteboards. Current lessons
and assignments are discussed and the work for the next week is
previewed.
Both PC and Mac users are able to
participate, but a highspeed connection is strongly
recommended (DSL, cable, wireless, satellite, etc.).
Each week, the online tutor will provide student assignments and
exercises. These assignments and exercises are drawn from the
Classical Writing student workbooks and guides, and therefore are
subject to our copyright policy. They should not be shared outside
of the registered families, either printed for distribution or posted on
the internet in any form.
The students will complete all Classical Writing assignments at home.
The online tutor will provide answers to assigned exercises as well as
editing and evaluation checklists for all writing projects. The home
educating parent will be responsible for evaluation and grading.
We do recommend that the home educating parent sit in on the tutorial whenever
possible.
There is a class forum where students are encouraged to post writing
projects and other assignments. The tutor will be looking these
over in order to assess class progress and needs. These posts, however,
will not be evaluated or graded.
We are offering an evaluation and grading option. Students
can submit up to fifteen writing projects via email for the year for evaluation
and grading at an additional fee for each one.
All Harvey's Grammar exercises will be completed and checked by home
educating parent. (Answer keys to
Harvey's Elementary Student Workbooks are available to
assist in this.) Questions and problems in these exercises will be
addressed in class as time permits, or via email.
