Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Jesus confirms this in the following verse:
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
He is the proclaimed in these verses:
Col 1:15 Who is the image
of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16 For by him were
all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible
and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities,
or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before
all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18 And he is the head
of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead;
that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19 For it pleased the
Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
The birth and manner of his birth was predicted in Isaiah:
Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
It was declared fulfilled in Mathew:
Mat 1:18 Now the birth of
Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to
Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy
Ghost.
Mat 1:19 Then Joseph her
husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example,
was minded to put her away privily.
Mat 1:20 But while he thought
on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream,
saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy
wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 1:21 And she shall bring
forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his
people from their sins.
Mat 1:22 Now all this was
done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,
saying,
Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin
shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his
name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Mat 1:24 Then Joseph being
raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took
unto him his wife:
Mat 1:25 And knew her not
till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
The names Immanuel in the Old Testament, and Jesus in the New Testament was confusing to me at first, until I looked them up in the original language that the books where written in. That made a lot of things clear to me. But rather than telling you everything, I would like you to look it up in the Greek-Hebrew languages because you may find the different translation very interesting. This was the first item that I did it with and now I check everything in this manner, and it gives me a better understanding of the meaning.
Where he was to be born was predicted in:
Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
The fulfillment of this is told in:
Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was
born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there
came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Mat 2:2 Saying, Where is
he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east,
and are come to worship him.
Mat 2:3 When Herod the king
had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Mat 2:4 And when he had gathered
all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of
them where Christ should be born.
Mat 2:5 And they said unto
him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
Jesus is always with us and always has been:
Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
John 1:1 In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in
the beginning with God.
John 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. Before him blood purification was done with animal sacrifice, but this was insufficient for final salvation. So Jesus came to feel our pain, our temptations, and bear our sin, and to give himself so that we may be saved. Here way back in Genesis God shows what he was willing to sacrifice for us, that is his son Jesus:
Gen 22:2 And he said, Take
now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into
the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of
the mountains which I will tell thee of.
Gen 22:3 And Abraham rose
up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young
men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering,
and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
Gen 22:4 Then on the third
day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
Gen 22:5 And Abraham said
unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will
go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
Gen 22:6 And Abraham took
the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he
took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
Gen 22:7 And Isaac spake
unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my
son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for
a burnt offering?
Gen 22:8 And Abraham said,
My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went
both of them together.
Gen 22:9 And they came to
the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there,
and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the
altar upon the wood.
Gen 22:10 And Abraham stretched
forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
Gen 22:11 And the angel of
the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and
he said, Here am I.
Gen 22:12 And he said, Lay
not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now
I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine
only son from me.
Gen 22:13 And Abraham lifted
up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket
by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for
a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
The sacrifice of Jesus has broken the curse that was:
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Mat 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Rom 5:10 For if, when we were
enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more,
being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
