Nowhere Man Lyrics

Lennon/McCartney

He's a real nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

Doesn't kave a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man, please listen,
You don't know what you're missing,
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command.

He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?
Doesn't kave a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man, don't worry,
Take your time, don't hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
lend you a hand.

He's a real Nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

Anomalies

0:19 (CD Version)
The reverb and effects on the CD mixes are often re-created. Here the reverb drops off completely through the words "point of view, knows not where he's ..."
1:04-1:07
"He's as blind as he can be" after guitar solo is very phased on LP. CD version obscures this
1:49-1:51 * NEW *
Paul loses the bassline a little, under Ringo's fill (this is what he'd play at the very end, where they repeat the "nowhere plans for nobody"!!), and then plays what sounds like an open string, very buzzy.
1:51
Aaah--la-la-la - one incorrect note in harmony, makes a very strange chord ...
2:35
After last "Nobody" there is a clipped "yea"
US Versions of Rubber Soul seem to have a guitar note in the opening vocal harmony.

This came to John Lennon after struggling to write a song for the album.
Lennon: "I thought of myself sitting there, doing nothing and getting nowhere."
Starts with a 3 part harmony sung by Lennon, Harrison, and McCartney.
Considered to be the first Beatles song that has nothing to do with love.
Natalie Merchant performed this at the 2001 special, Come Together: A Night For John Lennon's Words And Music. She did a mellow version, as the show was also a tribute to victims of the terrorist attacks on America.
