Michelle Lyrics

Lennon/McCartney

Michelle, ma belle.
These are words that go together well,
My Michelle.

Michelle, ma belle.
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble,
Tres bien ensemble.

I love you, I love you, I love you.
That's all I want to say.
Until I find a way
I will say the only words I know that
You'll understand.

I need you, I need you, I need you.
I need to make you see,
Oh, what you mean to me.
Until I do I'm hoping you will
Know what I mean.

I love you.

I want you, I want you, I want you.
I think you know by now
I'll get to you somehow.
Until I do I'm telling you so
You'll understand.

I will say the only words I know that
You'll understand, my Michelle.

Anomalies

0:45
'Fwip' in the word "say"
Not on mono
0:56, 2:01
Wrong note in guitar part under word "ma", makes a major chord, instead of minor (Right channel)

I've revised my opinion of these, after hearing from Max Mismetti. This is called a dissonant chord, the chord has a major AND minor third. The "third" being the note which normally distinguishes between a major chord and a minor chord. In this case, the strings just rang out louder and made it sound wrong, but it is in fact correct.

1:39 * NEW *
Click on lead guitar channel after solo ends (left)
2:01-2:08
Song slows from 118 bpm to 109 bpm, and stays like that. The sound of the snare changes here, so this must be an edited on ending - at least on the drum channel. Vincent Dubrall suggested that this was a "retard" - the song is intended to slow down. However, the change in sound implies that some kind of joining of takes took place.
2:27
Left ear - cough - not audible on CD, as vocals are dipped off. * NEW * Also stray guitar notes.

This is not based on any particular woman. They chose the name because it sounded good.
John Lennon invited McCartney over to college parties when he was still in high school. Paul would try to fit in by sitting in a corner and pretending to be French. He would play little tunes in French, but only knew a few French words. John told him that "Michelle" was worth working on. Paul told this story at his "Back in the US" performance at Portland, OR. Ivan Vaughn was a friend of Lennon and McCartney's whose wife was a French teacher. She taught Paul the words he needed to write this.
None of The Beatles spoke French. They picked up some German when they went there in 1962, but no French.
This won a Grammy in 1966 for song of the year.
In France, this went to #1.
