Small Group Ministries

No matter who you are or what your interests may be, we likely have a small group to fit you like a glove. We believe strongly that much of our spiritual growth occurs in community with other believers, and so we aim to facilitate such fellowship as much as possible. Right now, we are offering the following small groups:
Men’s Bible Study: Saturday mornings from 8:00 to 10:00am
This is also a time of prayer and fellowship.
First Place: Tuesday nights at 7:00pm
Learn to put Christ first in every area of your life. This course teaches how to be disciplined both spiritually
and physically, which makes this class ideal for anyone looking to lose weight, regulate diabetes, etc.
SSL Bible Study: Tuesday nights at 7:30pm (at Ramoses’ home)
With the growing Hispanic presence in our church community, we are providing a chance for congregation
members to brush up on their Spanish skills in the context of a study of the Gospel of John. Pastor Mary Lou
leads the Bible study for the first hour in English, and afterwards Juan and Jackie Ramos offer Spanish
             tutoring.
Choir: Wednesday nights at 7:00pm (from September to May)
Directed by Dr. Mark Harbold, the choir sings a wide range of traditional, contemporary, and international
pieces. Jonna Graae accompanies on piano.
Praise Band: Thursday nights at 7:30pm
Led by Paul Wonders, this group leads the congregation in praise choruses on Sunday mornings.
ESL Classes: Monday and Thursday nights at 6:30pm
This group meets a practical need in our community. There’s always room for more English tutors, aides,
and child care helpers (and students, of course!).
             Child care is provided.
Living Current: Sunday nights at 6:30pm
Youth group for grades 7-12. Follow the Living Current link below for more information.
The Parsonage Family: Sunday nights at 6:00pm
The youth band. It’s pretty low-key. Just come and jam before Living Current.

Partners in Ministry

We are able to share our building with several other churches and area ministries. We are excited to be able to play a part in the work that these groups are doing in our community.
First Asian Church: We’ve been pleased to have First Asian Church in our building for over a decade.
Iglesia Cristiana Comunidad Hispana started renting from us last May. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know Pastor Hector Barreto and the congregation. Several members of the ICCH congregation have joined our ESL team, several others have joined our property team, and we’ve enjoyed worshiping with them during the Worship Circle gatherings on Saturdays nights.
The Greenhouse offers supplementary education for home-schooled kids. Meeting Tuesday through Friday, they offer classes in a wide range of fields, including music, art, history, and science.
Christian Youth Theater is a community theater for kids in K-8.
Christmas Sharing is a DuPage County outreach to low-income families in the local school system. Members from our church help sort food and clothing donations, and the church building is used as a distribution center in mid-December as families come and pick up food and items for Christmas gifts.http://www.firstplace.org/shapeimage_1_link_0

Sunday Morning Worship Service

Our 10:00 a.m. service is a mixture of old and new styles. We believe in drawing from the foundations of our forefathers as we move forward into the 21st century. We enter into worship through beautiful pipe organ selections and the leading of our Praise Band. There is a time for praising the goodness of God early in the order of worship and prayer requests toward the end. We believe in multi-generational worship and strive to make people of all ages come to a deeper knowledge of the Lord. Our Experiencing the Message portion of the service is a favorite for many. This is a kinesthetic, hands-on study of the weekly focus of the service with something we can touch or a drama that shows us truth. Children ages 3 to 8 are invited to attend Children’s Church after praise and Experiencing the Message (Nursery care is available throughout the service and adult Sunday school). We use liturgy when appropriate and hymns that fit the message. Our Choir performs classical, modern, and multicultural pieces that help to focus worship. We have a gifted pastor and many leaders in the church who preach strong messages that are deeply rooted in the word of God. Our services are filled with the Holy Spirit and the joy of the Lord! Prayer Service

Our 8:00 p.m. service on Wednesday nights (7:30 in the summer) is a time for deep prayer. We begin with singing and a short scripture study that helps to focus our minds and hearts on the Lord and his leading. We hold prayer as something very dear and sacred. It is a major focus for our congregation. We praise first and petition later, bringing all of our joys and concerns before our Heavenly Father.
