Due to the superb sonic performance of the Advantage Series II Cables, we have had many requests to make the parts we use available to constructors. So we have made those parts available. We also offer kits which contain all the parts necessary to construct your own “Advantage Interconnects” in both 1 Meter and 1.5 Meter lengths. Pricing has been added to the CCC Wire and CC Solder Price List. Later we will also offer the parts and kits used in our Advantage Speaker Cables.

Advantage Series II Interconnect Reviews
The Axiom Amplifier, after over three years of development is in its final assembly and testing program. The final stages of the program focused on developing components that would optimize the Amplifier’s performance.

One design analysis and testing program resulted in two new shock mounted tube sockets. We evaluated “high tech” plastics with low Dielectric Constant and extremely good Dissipation Factors. It’s interesting that Teflon didn’t make the cut, a special crosslinked polystyrene proved to be the best. Compared to current and vintage sockets, they offer a significant improvement in low level detail resolution, transient performance and imaging. Their unique three point shock mounting with Ear Isoloss Grommets literally eliminates any tube microphonics. Octal, Compactron, and 4 pin(300B) sockets will be manufactured. These sockets will also be offered with a two point shock mounting system that mount in the standard tube socket chassis holes. You can see what they look like at

Axial Type Tube Sockets
Another testing program evaluated the sound performance of volume controls. After comparing stepped attenuators, potentiometers and transformers, we sourced a modified precision wire wound multi-turn pot that provided the best bandwidth and sound performance. In addition this Ten-Turn pot offers extremely good gain resolution, a design element that seems to be overlooked in many audio volume controls. It is a joy to use and provides very fine adjustments to optimize imaging and soundstage

Working with the engineers from one of the best “custom” capacitor manufacturers in the US was not only educational, it resulted in the development of a very fast transparent capacitor. Listening evaluations confirmed that sonic characteristics and speed of the power supply capacitor is just as important as the sonic performance and speed of an audio signal coupling capacitor. These capacitors do not inhibit the dynamic range, color the voicing or degrade the bandwidth performance of the amplifier.

The Axiom does not have any audio signal coupling capacitors, but the design tenets used resulted in some very high slew rate, over 2000 V/uS. The power supply capacitors and the audio signal capacitors will be made available to audio constructors. Other values can be made available if there is sufficient interest.

Maxi and Ultra Capacitors
The pre-production pair of the Axiom Amplifier are being assembled and tested. Bob already has one amplifier up and running. I have asked him to take pictures of the units as they are built. Once the testing is complete, hopefully in April 2003, we will be able to post information and cost on the kits and completed amplifiers.

The Kit will be broken down into component groups. That way any or all the components can be purchased by the constructor based upon project requirements and budget constraints. The component groups will be transformer sets, machined and anodized chassis sub-plates(components are bolted to the top sub-plate), hardware, chassis and covers, wire and connectors, AC Main switches and connectors, capacitors, control knobs, tube sockets, tubes and Volume/Hum potentiometers. The transformer design is finalized and a complete set of 18 transformers and chokes for a pair of amps will sell for an introductory price of $1600.00.
