If you have done a reformat, partitioned your Hard Drive,
replaced your Hard drive, or are moving your Profile data to another
PC which uses the same OS, you can use these easy methods to move your
Mozilla or Netscape Profile backup into the new install of Mozilla
or Netscape.
This guideline also applies if you are moving a Mozilla 1.7.x, or a Netscape 7.2 Profile. These versions of Mozilla and Netscape will recognize that the files do not exist in the original location, and use relative paths to determine the new location.
This is assuming that you have made a backup of the entire Profiles folder beforehand, in anticipation of the reformat, etc. If not, then do that now, as this is the key to the easy move of the Profiles Data. See this page for your Profiles Folder Location
Install Netscape / Mozilla
As this is a first-time install on the new PC, a new Profile will be
created.
Delete that newly created Profiles folder from the Mozilla
folder
Replace the newly created Profiles folder with a copy of the Profiles
folder from the old PC/HDD.
If not a first-time install, delete or move the existing Profiles folder from
the Mozilla folder
Replace with a copy of the Profiles folder from the old PC/HDD.
Next: Open the Profile Manager: Start | Programs | Netscape 7.2 | Profile Manager
Click on: Create new profile
Use the exact Profile name as the Profile you have copied from the old PC
Start Netscape, and all Profile data should be intact.
A second option, from Chris Ilias:
Create a new profile
Exit Netscape
Replace the contents of the new SLT folder with the contents of
the old SLT folder.
Do not change the name of the new SLT folder
Netscape will recognize that the files do not exist in the original
(old) location, and
will use relative paths to determine the new location.
That should get Mozilla or Netscape up and running.
TIP:
To prevent having the Profile Manager open
each time you open Mozilla or Netscape:
Right click on the Desktop Shortcut
Select: Properties
Select: Shortcut
In the "Target" field add this command switch:
-p yourprofilename
It will look similar to this:
"C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -p yourprofilename -quiet
OR
"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -p yourprofilename -quiet
NOTE: there is one trailing space after the final quotation mark:
The -quiet disables the splash screen, however, this is your choice
