Martha Maria Webb Barkley

Martha Maria Webb was born on December 17, 1856 in Harris, Sullivan County, Missouri. She was the fifth child born to James J. Webb Jr. and Elizabeth Swartout. The order was Baby Webb, Napolean Bonaparte, Nathaniel Jerome, Charles Oscar, Martha Maria, James Douglas, Stephen, George B. McClelan, and Dennis B.

On December 31, 1876 in Mila, Sullivan County, Missouri she was married to William Hubbell Barkley, son of John Barkley and Mary Barkley. William's parents were cousins. Also William's sister, Margaret Barkley married Martha's brother Nathaniel Jerome Webb. It was an unique situation where a brother and sister were married to a brother and sister. Their children were cousins from both sides of the family.

William and Martha were the parents of five children: James Woodrow, Matilda M., John Lowery, Mary Elizabeth, and George Austin.

Martha passed away on July 31, 1915 in Harris and is buried in Sullivan County, Missouri.
