Chapter 6

MARTY learned more about Jennifer and her reality. And that his other "self" helped Doc recover the DeLorean from the Delgado mine adjacent to the Boot Hill Cementary in 1955. And the reason for his other "self" went back to 1885 was because he and Doc saw Doc's own tombstone. He also told Marty about his favorite author, Jules Verne after who, according to Jennifer, the two boys were named after. That wasn't all. The next time Doc visited that cementary was when he found the two boys at their mother's supposed tombstone. There was more. "In Jennifer's reality." said Doc, "My current self is spending the first nine months in 1885. I should be spending at least ten more years in the nineteenth century getting married and raising a family. You, on the other hand, are currently in the year 1941 serving in the Navy. Jennifer told me that you went there to save up money on a brooch that you wanted to buy her for Christmas. The 'me' that's resident in her reality had already spent ten or eleven years in the nineteenth century and have taken my family back to the future with me to live here. The 'you' in her reality have finished six months in the military. That's why we can't go back there with her to help her straighten out the mess she made. We do and she succeeds, we'll return to a different reality in which there is two of each of us." "Now that's heavy." said Marty. "Heavy, heavy." said Doc, "Jennifer must carry out this mission herself. That way when she returns our current selves will be in our own respective time periods that we are supposed to be in. It'll be our future 'selves' that will be in her 'present' time. And neither of us will have any memory of this reality or her ordeal." "You're the doc, Doc." said Marty.

The next thing they did was talk to Jennifer. "Jennifer." said Doc, "I hope that you succeed in your mission." "I hope so." said Jennifer. She looked at Marty. Then turning back to Doc she said "Doctor Brown. About Marty and his future, if I'm not successful..." "No." said Doc. He motioned to Marty to go to another room and took her aside. "Jennifer." he said, "We agreed. Bringing information about his future if you don't succeed could be disasterous. Even if your or my intentions are good, it could backfire drastically. Whatever he finds out he'll do so in the natural course of time." Jennifer felt sad. But what could she do?

Doc went out to. Sitting at his desk was Jennifer. She produced a piece of paper from her purse, took a pencil in hand and started writing.

           Dear Marty
In my reality when I first went to the year 2015,
I saw you talking to Needles about a business
proposal. You refused at first but caved in when
Needles threatened to call you a chicken. But then,
your future boss called to inform you that he was
monitoring what you did and fired you. Whatever Needles
have in store for you, no matter what he says, don't
listen to him. Ignore him. Wilted laurels are better
           than no laurels at all.
           Sincerely
           Jennifer.

When she was done, she took out an envelope and wrote on it "Don't open until 2015." and put the letter in it.

Outside, Doc and Marty saw that Einstein was getting to the presence of the two boys. "It's like they're used to him." said Marty. "And Einstein is used to them." commented Doc. "Doc." said Marty, "You never told me who I'm gonna marry..." "Marty." said Doc, "We agreed that I would let me the girl of your dreams throught the natural course of time. Besides, when Jennifer goes back to fix what she did wrong, such information would become academic." "I know, Doc." said Marty, "You know, I'm beginning to have feelings towards Jennifer." "As you should." said Doc. Meanwhile, Jennifer came in, saw Marty's coat on the DeLorean, and snuck the envelope into it.

Having the DeLorean that Jennifer and the boys rode in tow, Doc and Marty went with the three time travelers to the abandoned house that was supposed to be Doc's. Unloading the DeLorean, Doc had loaded Mr. Fusion with manure. Then, he got in and motioned Jennifer over to the car. Pointing to the time circuits he said "This is the destination time that you were supposed to go to. So when you go back in time to restore your existence, set the time circuits back to this time again and you'll arrive back at the same time you departed and have the same 24 hours to relive again. Only this time, it'll be in your own reality. It'll be like you never left." "Okay." said Jennifer. Doc immediately set the time circuits for June 20, 1966 and the destination location for Hill Valley. Using the map on the circuits as Jennifer taught him, Doc used the indicator to point at the same downtown that Jennifer and the boys arrived the first time. Jennifer called the two boys over to get in. Then, Jennifer went to the tow truck that Doc rented and got out the album that was supposed to be Marty's get well gift and put it into the DeLorean as well. "Well, that's it." said Doc, "Good luck, Jennifer." They both embraced as Jennifer gave him a peck on the cheek. "I hope so, Doctor Brown." said Jennifer. "Don't worry." said Doc, "Once you do what I have instructed you to do, everything will be fine." Jennifer then turned to Marty who said "Good luck, Jennifer." They both embraced and kissed. Doc, witnessing this turned to the two boys saying "Boys. Don't look." Then, he turned back to the two and saw something fall out of Marty's pocket. It was an envelope. He went over and picked it up. "What's this?" he inquired. "That's Marty's." said Jennifer. But Doc looked inside and said "No. This has something to do about his future. It's information about the future." He turned to Jennifer holding the note to her face saying "I warned you about this, girl. The consequences could be disasterous." "That's a chance that Marty will have to take." said Jennifer, "Give it back to him. His future depends on it." "No." said Doc, "I refuse to allow Marty to do anything that would threaten the very existance of the universe." He turned to tear up the note. Jennifer turned to Doc saying "Then, I'll tell him myself." She turned to Marty saying "Marty..." but Doc put his hand over Jennifer's mouth and muffled her voice. "Doc." said Marty, "What the hell are you doing?" But before Doc could respond, Verne called out. "Jennifer." he said. Jennifer pulled Doc's hand away from her mouth and asked "What is it, Verne?" "It's Jules." said Verne, "He's looking sick." The three approached the car and looked in. There was Jules clutching his chest. "Jennifer." he muttered. He pulled out his hand. It was fading. Jennifer pulled the picture of Doc and his family and the group looked at it. Now Jules was fading from the picture. "Great Scott!" exclaimed Doc, "Jennifer, you've got to go back in time now." "But, Dr. Brown." protested Jennifer. "No time to argue." said Doc, "With Jules fading away, Verne will be next and then finally you." Jennifer turned to Marty who said "You'd better go." Jennifer paused for a minute. Then, she got in. She turned ignition on. Then, she waved back. Activating the cloaking device, then the hover device, the car lifted off the ground. "Alright." said Jennifer, "So far so good." She turned to the boys. Jules was getting worse by the minute. A look at a worried Verne told her that he would be next. "Hang on you two." she said. She flicked the switch to the time circuits. "Time circuits activated." she said, "Flux capacitor fluxing. Engine running." She put her foot to the accelerator saying "We're on our way." A lurch was felt as the car sped up to 88 miles per hour.

Monday, June 20, 1966
7:55 a.m.
Hill Valley, Califonia

As the blinding light outside the car dissolved, Jennifer looked down. There it was again. The Hill Valley of 1966. Looking at the "Present Time" on the time circuit indicator told her that she had five minutes until her first "self" showed up. Setting the car down in the alleyway five yards from where the other DeLorean would land, Jennifer turned off the ignition. Jeniffer looked at the boys. Then, she looked at the steering wheel of the car saying to herself "Damn it, Doctor Brown. Why did you tear up that note? What kind of friend are you to condemn him to a future that might be..." Then, Jennifer hit on something. "Future!" she repeated. "Of course, this is a time machine. I could go there myself." Then, she turned to the boys saying "Or you two could. Can you?" She looked at Jules. But he was getting worse. Then, she turned to Verne asking "Can you?" "Jennifer." said Verne, "Do remember Candlestick Park?" She remembered the incident with the remote saying "Yes I do." She set the time circuits to October 21, 2015. "Alright." said Jennifer, "If I blow it. You're to go here." Verne nodded in agreement. "Just wait until I get back to tell you." She left him with the remote saying "Don't worry about me." Picking up the sleep inducer and putting it into her purse, she got out and waited behind a stack of crates. Then a sound was heard followed by a gust of wind and sound of a car. Then, she saw her other self get out and go towards the street from the alley. Jennifer followed. But, as she did, she felt a bump and remembered the DeLorean up front has been cloaked as well. She looked back up. Her other self was gone. Going out to the street she caught sight of the backside of her. Pulling out the sleep inducer she used it on the woman in front of her. The woman collapsed and Jennifer took her by the shoulders and dragged her to the bus stop bench. Setting her down she looked at her face and saw to her horror that it wasn't her other self at all but her mother. "On no." she said to herself. "Hey you." said one of the witnesses, "What are you doing?" Jennifer tried to revive her but began to feel dizzy. Pulling out the picture of herself and Marty, she noticed that she was starting to fade. Oh no. she said to herself, I blew it! She turned back to the alleyway to tell the boys about her sudden plight and tell them to go to the future to warn Marty about Needles. But, when she got there. She looked in. Jules was gone and Verne was fading away. "No!" said Jennifer. Looking at the picture of Doc and his family, she saw Jules completely gone from the picture and Verne fading away there, too. Immediately, she got into the car and started to turn the ignition. But, there was something wrong. She began to forget how to start a car. Pulling out the photo of her and Marty she looked at it and saw herself really fading away. She looked at her hand. It was now turning transparent. She was begining to be erased from existance.
