Chapter 5

THE court square was not far from the barn in which Doc had stored the DeLorean, so it didn't take them long to go from the barn to the Palace Saloon. While they were on their way, Marty got to look at Hill Valley eleven years after he left it. It was growing very fast. The courthouse was complete and the clocktower was installed. There were also other building built that weren't there in 1885. As they approached the saloon, Marty noticed Maggie McFly taking a boy by the ear away from the sheriff's office. Marty could hear her say "You should be ashamed of yourself, William Shaun McFly. Coming onto the sheriff's wife while she's working." That's William McFly, my great grandfather. said Marty to himself, And he's a snotty brat. Then, Doc and Marty noticed someone coming out of the sheriff's office. He had a resemblance to Jim Jandick. And he was approaching the two saying "Emmett. What are you doing back in town so soon? Did you forget something?" "Nope, Sherrif Jandick." said Doc, "I came back with a friend of mine to show him the town." Marty stood there and stared. Sheriff Jandick. he said to himself, That's "Quick on the Draw" Jandick. The first Jandick in Hill Valley. Doc went on to say "Sheriff this is uh..." "...Eastwood." said Marty, "Gene H. Eastwood." "Gene H. Eastwood." said the sheriff, "Were you related to Clint Eastwood?" "Yep." said Marty, "He was my brother." "Oh." said Jandick, "It's been a long time but I'm sorry to hear what happened to him." "That's alright." said Marty, "I heard that they named the ravine after him." "That's right." said Jandick, "After he and Emmett here rescued that school teacher from some train robbers. He went down with those two robbers into the ravine in that train. Such a terrible explosion though. They never found his body or that of those robbers." "I know." said Marty, "It was a terrible tragedy to lose a brother." "By the way," asked Jandick, "What does the 'H' stand for." "Hackman." said Marty. After hearing Marty, the sheriff turned to Emmett saying "Emmett. You've shouldn't come back here. Buford Tannen has escaped." "Don't worry." said Doc, "Me and my friend won't be here much long." "Okay, Emmett." said Jandick, "I've got to get back to work. I just want to warn you. He's still wants to kill you over a matter of eighty dollars." After that, he turned back to his office as Doc and Marty entered the saloon.

The customers in the bar were elated over the fact that Doc had returned after leaving with his family the previous day. The bartender said "Emmett. It's good to see you again. Can I give you the usual?" "Nope." said Doc, "Whiskey." "Emmett." said the bartender, "Are you sure? Do you know what happened last time you had a sip." "I know." said Doc, "Whiskey." "Okay, Emmett." said the bartender, "I'm not your paw. I just don't want you to do your own thing." He poured out a glass and gave it to Doc. Then, turning to Marty he asked "How about you young man?" "Oh no." said Marty, "Thanks." Doc whispered to Marty saying "Okay Marty. When the bartender concocts that wake-up juice of his, take notes." "Right, Doc." said Marty. Then, Doc turned to the rest of the bar raising his glass as if to propose a toast saying "Bottoms..." He was interrupted when four men came through the door. "Well if it aint that no good cheatin' blacksmith." said one of them. It was Buford Tannen. Marty said to himself Oh geez, not now. "What is it, Tannen?" demanded Doc. "You're what's it." said Tannen, "You still owe me money from eleven years ago. And I'm gonna get it even if I have to kill you!" "Just try it, Tannen." said Doc. "Now, Doc." said Marty. Tannen turned to him saying "Well, look who we have here." "Buford." said one of his men, "This can't be Clint Eastwood. He fell into the ravine eleven years ago." "And even he was still alive," said another gangmember, "That wouldn't be him. He looks like he hasn't aged a day." Buford turned to Marty saying "What's your name dude?" "Eastwood." said Marty. "See?" said Tannen to the rest of his men. "Gene H. Eastwood." Marty went on to say. "Gene H. Eastwood?" asked Buford. "Yeah." said Marty, "'H' as in Hackman. I'm Clint Eastwood's youngest brother." "Gene Hackman Eastwood?" exclaimed Buford, "What kind of stupid name is that?" "And you're Buford 'Mad Dog' Tannen." said Marty. At that, the entire bar retreated back as Marty said to himself Uh oh! I did it again. Buford was angry at this. "Nobody calls me that!" he said, "Especially some little runt with a funny name like Gene Hackman Eastwood." He drew his pistol and started shooting at Marty's feet saying "Dance!" Marty jumped foot in the air as the bullet narrowly missed him. "Dance!" said Buford shooting off another bullet, "You could dance better than that!" Marty was dancing as Buford kept shooting at his feet. Then, one of the saloon girls cleared her tray of drinks and clobbered him over the head with it. Buford turned to see who did it. It was a saloon girl bearing the resemblance of Jim Jandick's wife Jan. "Knock that off." she said. "Well, lookie what we got here." said Buford. He put his arms around her giving her a tight squeeze asking "How about a kiss?" The girl struggled as the gunman had her on a table on her back with him on top of her. "Get off of me." she demanded. "No way." said Buford, "I'd think there's something you could do for me. I know you want. I just know you want." "Shut your filthy mouth." said the saloon girl slapping him, "I'm not that kind of a girl." "Oh maybe not." said Buford, "But..." He was interrupted by a sound of a gunshot followed by a chandelier falling on top of the saloon girl's assailant." Buford looked. It was Sheriff Jandick armed with a shotgun. "Get off of my wife." he demanded. "This is your wife?" asked Buford. He reached for his gun so he could use it on the saloon girl but the sheriff said "Uh, uh, uh, uh. By the time you have your hand on your gun, you'll find a bullet in your head. Now, move away from her." Buford's men reached for their pistols but Jandick said to Buford "Tell your men to put their guns away." Buford backed away from the girl and motioned his men to put their pistols back in their holsters. Then, Buford turned to the sheriff saying "Sheriff Jandick. If that's your wife, why is she dressed like a hussie?" "That's none of your business, Tannen." said the sheriff. "It isn't?" exclaimed Buford, "You should've told me." Him and his men laughed. "Buford Tannen." said the sheriff, "I thought I told you never come into my town again." "Well, you thought wrong." said Tannen, "I'm back. I've busted out of stir. And now, I've got a score to settle with this blacksmith and his friend." "Clint Eastwood is dead." said the sheriff. "That's what I heard." said Tannen. "Then, hear this." said the sheriff, "There's a bounty out on you. And, I've already called the U.S. Marshall. He's on his way with his men. Now, I've been told to let you be. But, if you don't leave town soon, I'm gonna throw you and your men in the county jail and keep you there until they come." "Okay." said Buford, "I get the painting." Then, one of his gangmembers tapped him on the shoulder saying "That's 'picture', Buford. 'I get the picture'." "Okay." said Buford turning back to the sheriff, "I get the picture." Turning to his men, he said "Com'on, guys. Let them have their fun." At that, Buford and his men escaped. Then, the sheriff called a small boy in saying to him "Son, take your mama home." "Yes, paw." said the boy as he got the very shaken saloon girl by the hand and went with her outside. Before the two left, the sheriff said to the boy "And remember. That's how you handle them when it comes to getting your way. Don't give others an inch. And give the business. Remember that, give him the business." "Yes, paw." said the boy. After that, the boy and his mother left. Then, Jandick said "Alright everyone what're you all sitting around for. Let's have some fun. Pianist, play some music. The drinks are on me." "Yahoo." said the customers as music was being played by a piano. "Hey sheriff." said Doc, toasting his glass. "Yes, Emmett." said the sheriff. "Here's to you." said Doc as he took a sip. "Emmett." said the bartender, "No!" But it was too late. Doc had taken a sip and fell face first onto a table. Then, the bartender told the sheriff "This is one man who can't handle his liquor." Marty tried to revive him. "He's out cold." he said. "I know." said the bartender, "Let's make some wake-up juice." The bartender's assistant start getting out some bottles and he and the bartender started to mix drinks while Marty took notes. Then, the bartender put a clothes pin on Doc's nose. Then, he put a funnel in Doc's moth and gave the cup to Marty saying "Just pour it into his mouth. Then, just step back." Marty did. Then, Doc's eyes bugged wide open. The next thing that happened was that Doc clutched his throat and ran outside to dunk his head into the horse troth.

The next thing that Buford and his men did was to go to Doc's barn to ransack it. What they found was a youth lying wearing some strange clothing. He was lying on a bench fast asleep. "Well, look what we got here." said Buford, "I wonder who he is?" "Dunno, Buford." said one of his men. "Maybe he has something to do with the blacksmith." said Buford, "Pick him up and take him with us. We've got some bargaining power." The men went over to the youth, picked him up, took him outside and put him on top of one of the horses.

Marty and the bartender pulled the Doc out of the troth as Marty said "He's still out." "That's just the reflexes." explained the bartender, "It'll take him another few minutes before his head clears." Then, a sound was heard. Marty turned to look in the general direction of the barn in which the DeLorean and John Lennon were in. It was Buford Tannen and his gang. And they've got John Lennon as a hostage. "Hey Eastwood." said Tannen, "I want that no good cheatin' blacksmith and your brother Clint. They're to meet me at the manure dump in an hour. And if they don't, the young dude gets it." Buford held the unconscience John Lennon up and pointed his pistol at his head. Marty had the hopeless feeling that the worse was yet to come.
