Chapter 8

8:00 p.m.

THE DeLorean appeared out of the night sky over Doc's 1986 home. Pushing the button to open the lab roof, that roof opened and the car sunk down until it found itself settling on the floor. After, making the car visible. The three time travelers got out. "Marty, Jennifer." said Doc, "A word with you." "Yes, Doc." said Marty. "Sit down." said Doc. The two did. Then, Doc gave them another lecture about traveling. "How many times do I have to tell you two that time traveling is not for your typical Sunday afternoon rides?" asked Doc, "And that the time machine is not a toy? Didn't any of you two learned anything after hearing what I had to do when me and Marty had to go back to 1941 Pearl Harbor to restore the time continuum and what I had no choice but to become?" "Doctor Brown." said Jennifer, "It's my fault. This whole thing started with me trying to get Marty to forget about the Jan's problems with her husband. I should've thought of something else." "Yes, you should have, Jennifer." said Doc, "And I would've hoped you would've after your second trip to 1966. But no! It had to be this nastalgia thing." Jennifer hung her head down. "Doc." said Marty, "It's my fault too. I shouldn't let Jim Jandick get to me like that. I merely took Jan Charlow away from him because of what he called me." "I know, Marty." said Doc, "And I thought that you finally gotten over losing your judgement every time someone called you a name after that near accident with the Rolls-Royce." Doc turned to Einstein asking Marty "Have you fed Einstein?" "Yes I have." said Marty. "Good." said Doc,"I've got to go back to Ben Lomond now." "Hey Doc." said Marty, "Let me take you back there." "No, Marty." said Doc, "I'm taking the DeLorean back with me myself after I drop off both you and Jennifer. And I'm taking the keys to the limousine as well in case you two decide to find another way to time travel." Marty and Jennifer looked at each other. It finally happened. The Doc had lost his trust in them.

After changing back into their own clothes, Jennifer back in her own uniform, Doc took her and Marty home. Jennifer was the first to be let out. After a goodnight kiss, Marty watched her go up to her house. Right there on the porch was that sofa swing that him and Doc put her in not knowing that Old Biff had altered time then. Marty found it hard to believe that he and Doc did that a year ago. After leaving Jennifer's house, Doc took Marty home. After pulling into the driveway, Marty took his skateboard and got out. "Marty." said Doc, "Me and the family will be home tomorrow night." "That's good, Doc." said Marty, "Hey Doc. Do you know tomorrow is the first anniversary of that first temporal experiment?" "It's hard to believe it's been that long." said Doc, "I spent over a decade in the 19th century just to wait for that first anniversary." "I know, Doc." said Marty shaking his hand, "Happy Anniversary." "Thanks Marty." said Doc. "You're welcome, Doc." said Marty, "See you tomorrow night." "Same here, Marty." said Doc. After that, the door closed and the DeLorean lifted up and flew off until it was gone in a brilliant flash of light leaving behind a pair of fire trails. Marty turned to go into the house. Once inside, Marty was greated by his mother who asked "Marty. Where have you been? We've been worried about you." Marty looked around. Not only was his mother there but his father, his brother Dave and sister Linda. "Mom, you're you again." said Marty, "Dad. You're alive. Dave, Linda. It's good to see you again. Everything's back to the way it was." "Marty." said George, "What are you talking about?" "Believe me." said Marty, "You wouldn't believe me if I didn't tell you." "Marty." asked Lorraine, "Are you going to have dinner?" Feeling tired, Marty said "No thanks. I think I'd better turn in." "Marty." said Linda,"I'm not your answering service but Biff called. He says that your trucks fixed. You could pick it up at his shop tomorrow morning." "That's great." said Marty, "Really great." After that, he turned to his room and dropped down on his bed.

10:30 a.m.

Before going to work at the record store at the Peabody Mall, Marty first went to Biff's shop to pick up his truck. "Hey Marty." said Biff, "The trucks all ready and waxed up." "Okay Biff." said Marty, "I hope you put two coats of wax on it instead of one." "Hey Marty." said Biff, "Relax. I did." "You'd better, Biff." said Marty, "I'd hate it when you con me." He looked at it. And this time, Biff was true to his word. After paying him for the labor, Marty pulled the truck out of the shop and drove off to Jennifer's house to pick her up and take her to her Burger King job. After he picked her up, they had a chance to take a look around at Hill Valley. Everything was back to normal. After dropping off Jennifer, he went to the Peabody Mall where his job is. In the store Marty saw Jim Jandick come up to him saying "Hey Marty." Uh oh. said Marty to himself, I'd better apologize to him. Marty didn't find that necessary. Instead of getting on Marty's case about his involvement with Jan, he asked him "Do you have those sound effect CD's? I need it today." Marty gave Jandick a startled look. Then, he said "Sure." He showed them the row of sound effect CD's and Jandick selected them. Then, he took it to the cash register to get it rung up. "There's some football today." explained Jandick, "But my wife wants me to clip the hedges." "S-she does?" asked Marty. "Marty." asked Jandick, "Is something wrong? You don't look well." "No." said Marty, "Get outta town. I'm alright." After paying up, Jandick left. Marty gave Jandick a long stare. He hasn't been this nice before. "Marty." said a co-worker, "Are you alright." "Yeah, sure." said Marty, "I'm alright." Then, the phone rang and another co-worker answered it. "Marty." he said, "Telephone." Marty took the receiver saying "Thanks." Marty talked into it saying "Yes?" "Marty." said a voice on the other side. It was the Doc's. "How soon is your lunch break?" asked Doc's voice. "At noon." said Marty. "Marty." said Doc's voice, "This is important. When you're on your lunch break I want you to check out the Jandicks if you please." "Okay, Doc." said Marty, "But why?" "Well, last night. Clara scolded Verne for using the 'A' word when he was refering to Jim Jandick. As in kicking his...you know what I mean." said Doc's voice. "Of course I do." said Marty. "But this morning, Verne denied saying such a thing about Jandick." said Doc's voice, "And so did Clara." "This sounds heavy, Doc." said Marty. "I know Marty." said Doc, "And since you interferred with Jim Jandick and Jan Charlow of the past, it's imperitive that you find out the scope of your actions." "Okay, Doc." said Marty, "I'll do that." After that, he hung up.

It was lunchtime. Marty got into the truck and drove to the Jandick house. On his way, he drove past the Burger King restaraunt where Jennifer worked. And there at the bus stop was Jennifer. "Marty." she said, "I got a phone call from Doctor Brown to check out the Jandicks. He said that it has to do with what you did in the past." "Well get in, Jen." said Marty and Jennifer did. Then, they drove off to the Jandick house.

When they arrived, they saw a group of men running out of the house. "What the hell?" exclaimed Marty. Pulling the truck to the curb, he and Jennifer got out. Then, he saw Jan come out of the house and pick up some radio and pulled out a CD and discarded it. Then, Jim came out and say "Com'on, Jan." But, Jan turned to him saying "Don't you 'Jan' me you foreflusher." Marty and Jennifer turned to each other exclaiming "Foreflusher?" "Listen, Jim." said Jan, "I don't want you getting out of your shores today. I want to hedges trimmmed." "Com'on, Jan." said Jim, "It's Sunday." "Yeah." said Jan, "And football day. That's no excuse for not trimming the hedges." She picked up a hedge clipper and gave it to her husband. "Now prune." she demanded. She took him by the ear and took him to the nearest hedge. Marty and Jennifer got a close-up look at Jan. The black eye that was present on her the previous day was gone and it looked like she was never beaten in her life. Jan looked at the two saying "Hey Marty and Jennifer." "Hi, Mrs. Jandick." said Marty and Jennifer, "Nice day isn't it." "It sure is." said Jan, "Is there something wrong?" "No." said Marty, "Not really. Hey Mrs. Jandick, what happened to those bruises on your face?" "Bruise?" asked Jan, "What bruise?" "The bruises that your husband's been inflicting." "Jim?" laughed Jan, "I don't think so. He's been been a pussycat ever since he got crashed into those Hell's Angels motorcycles and got beaten up for it." "Hell's Angels?" gasped Marty, "This is heavy." At that, Marty passed out.

When Marty came too, he found himself on a sofa. Then, he saw his mother and asked "Mom. Mom?" asked Marty "Is that you?" "There, there." said Lorrain, "Now relax. You and Jennifer have been asleep for almost an hour now." "I had the strangest nightmare." said Marty, "I dreamt that Jim Jandick became a nice guy and that his wife was the bossy one." "Well you're safe and sound now." said Lorraine, "Right back in to good ol' Jandick household." "Jandick household?" asked Marty as his eyes bugged wide open. Sitting up, Marty was looking around. He was indeed in Jim Jandick's house. And sitting there was George and Lorraine. "Mom?" asked Marty, "Dad?" "Just relax, Marty." said Lorraine, "The Jandicks called when you and Jennifer passed out on the sidewalk." "Jennifer?" exclaimed Marty. He look over and saw her being offered a glass of water by Jim. Jesus Christ! said Marty to himself, Jim Jandick has become a nice guy. He heard him tell her "Jennifer, your parents are on their way right now to pick you up and take you home." "Home?" exclaimed Jennifer. Lorraine went over to intercede. "Jennifer." she said, "You had fainting spell. So did Marty. I'd think it's more prudent for you not go back to work." "And that goes for you too, Marty." said George. Marty and Jennifer looked at each other. They both knew that it was the sight of Jim's sudden kindness that caused them to faint and that his kindness was brought on by Marty's interference in the past. They knew Doc's warning about what happened if other people learned about the very existance of time traveling. Especially when Old Biff and his 1978 self found out about it. And what happened to Jennifer in the days after she found out about it. "Marty." said Lorraine, "We called your boss at the record store. He said you don't have to come back to work for the rest of the day." "That's-that's great." said Marty. "Marty." said George, "Give me keys to the truck and go with your mother. I'll take the truck home." "Thanks, Dad." said Marty. After kissing Jennifer, he left with his mother.

After arriving home, Lorraine told Marty "Now go straight to bed, Marty. Don't stay up too late." "Right mom." he said. David and Linda were here. "Marty." said Linda, "I heard what happened at the Jandicks." "Yeah, Marty." said Dave, "At least the Jandicks are nice people." Marty paused for a minute. "Yeah." he said, "Since when was Jim Jandick a nice guy?" "Marty." said Lorraine, "Have you forgotten? He's been this was ever since he got beaten up by the Hell's Angels." "Hell's Angels?" asked Marty. "Marty." said Lorraine, "You were there. Don't you remember? It was the day you first met Jennifer." "Mom." said Linda, "We've heard this story a dozen times from Marty. He met here the first day at school, share a milkshake afterwords, and watched Jim Jandick chase some teenager who had his girlfriend and crashed into some motorcycles belonging to the Hell's Angels." "I know, Linda." said Lorraine, "Marty got so involved in telling us what happened when he got home he almost forgot to introduce Jennifer." "I-I did?" asked Marty. "Of course you did." said Lorraine. Marty began to feel faint again. "Mom." he said, "I'd think I'd better hit the sack." After that, he headed to his room.

The first thing Marty did when he was in there was to get ahold of Doc. To his gratification, he did. "Doc." he said, "I went over there just like I told you." "And?" asked Doc's voice. "You're right, Doc." said Marty, "I did affect his destiny. He's become a nice guy." "I guess that confrontation with the Hell's Angels must've been a traumatic experience." said Doc's voice, "At least it didn't do any damage to the space-time continuum." "Oh, Doc." said Marty, "Me and Jennifer both fainted when we both realized that Jim was never a wife beater. After him and his wife called our folks, our folks called our jobs and told us that we were given the rest of the day off." "Which means I won't be seeing you at our place tonight." said Doc's voice. "That's right, Doc." said Marty, "At least we didn't tell them that our time travelling had something to do with Jim's behavior." "Good idea, Marty." said Doc, "No point endangering the space-time continuum by infoming them about our time travels. Well then, get some rest, and I'll see you tomorrow night." "Okay, Doc." said Marty, "Good bye." "Goodbye, Marty." said Doc's voice. After the Doc hung up, Marty pushed the button for the hang-up on his phone and called Jennifer. She was home. "Hi, Marty." said her voice. "Hey, Jen." said Marty, "I guess your supervisor gave you the rest of the day off after hearing what happened." "He sure did, Marty." said Jennifer, "At least we get to see each other in school tomorrow." "That's for sure, Jen." said Marty, "See you tomorrow." "Goodbye, Marty." said Jennifer, "Love you." "Love you too, Jen." said Marty and they both hung up. Marty laid back on his bed. Of all the disruptions to he, Doc and Jennifer were involved with before, this one had resulted in a happy ending.

The End
