Chapter 18

THE prince looked at Jennifer and said “My love, Botticelli told me everything.”

Oh no! she said to herself, Botticelli must’ve told him about me be being from the future.

To her surprise, the next question was “Did Tannenio violate you?”

Relieve, she remembered that it were a lot of close calls in that studio during her confrontation with that evil count thanks to Marty and Simonetta’s intervention. So she said “No.”

He put his arms around his future princess and said “My beloved. I will have guards to protect you if the count ever menaces you again.”

“No need.” said Jennifer, “The count has been taken care of. Look!”

Immediately, she showed the prince that Tannenio was face down in a cart full of manure.

Turning to Stricklandio, he said “Get him out of that shit.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.” said Stricklandio who ordered his men to do thus.

After Tannenio was pulled out of the manure, the prince set Jennifer aside and said to the captain “Bring him to me.” And the captain did. “Count Tannenio.” the prince went on to say, “You have been charged with the attempted rape of my future bride and for the abduction of Moroccan nationals and selling them off as slaves. You are hereby banished from Florence forever, your goods and property shall be confiscated and your servants shall be dispersed.” Turning to the black man who rode beside the prince, he said “Prince Abdul. You have something to say.”

“Yes.” said Abdul, “Count Tannenio, you will accompany me and my soldiers back to Morocco with me where you shall work in the mines until every one of my subjects that you have kidnapped are returned safely home.”

“And Count Tannenio.” said the prince, “The day that you return to Florence will be the day you die. Prince Abdul, he’s all yours.”

Then Simonetta, the woman who looked like Jennifer, broke away from her husband and approached Prince Lorenzo saying “Your Majesty. I would like to make a few parting words with the count if you may.”

Prince Lorenzo looked at her, then at the count, then at her saying “It is permitted.”

Simonetta approached Tannenio who was now in bondage saying “Count Tannenio, listen to me. Ever since you laid eyes on me, you lusted for me with your heart killing or destroying any suitor who would have me. And when you mistook the future bride of the prince for me, you tried to fulfill your lustful desires on her and look what happened: You lost everything, even a home. And now you must work in a mine shaft in Africa under deplorable conditions. I pity you for that. But there is no pity for lust for lust became your enemy. What do you have to say about that?”

Tannenio spat out some thesis and said “I hate manure.”

“Take him away.” said Prince Lorenzo to Prince Abdul.

At once, Prince Abdul said “Take the count and tie him to one of the horses. He’s going to have a long walk to our ship.” Turning to Lorenzo, he said “May Allah bless your city and principality.”

“The honor is mine.” said the prince.

After that, the Moroccan prince gathered his men and left taking the count with them.

With all that done, Jennifer turned to the prince and said “My prince. There is a man here that is deserving of a reward for rescuing me.”

The prince turned to her and asked “Who?”

Jennifer turned to get Marty and bring him back to him saying “This man.”

“Alexander Dumas?” asked the prince.

“Please sir.” said Marty, “Call me Marty.”

“Whatever.” said the prince, “Alexander Dumas. For meritorious action against Count Tannenio in rescuing my future bride, I will reward you. What will it be? Gold? Riches? Property? Whatever you want I will give you.”

Turning to Jennifer, Marty said to the prince “I want her.”

The crowd reacted in shock. Then, the prince said “Out of the question. She is my bride-to-be.”

“Not anymore.” said Jennifer as she let Marty put his arms around her, “I’m sorry, my prince. But I can’t marry you. My heart once again belongs to him.”

“But my love…” protested the prince.

“My prince.” said Jennifer, “This morning I overheard you and Botticelli discussing about trying to find out about me. I felt used and wanted to go back with the man I used to love.” She looked at Marty.

“But he betrayed you.” said the prince, “You saw him talk to another woman.”

“It doesn’t mean that he was flirting with her.” said Jennifer, “And if he did I now forgive him.” She looked at Marty with affection saying “That’s what’s love is all about isn’t it, Marty. Forgiveness.”

“It is, Jen.” said Marty.

Turning back to the prince, Jennifer said “My prince, I’m sorry but the wedding is off. But don’t be sad. There are more fish in the sea. All you have to do is look.” She broke away from Marty to approach the prince saying “My prince, this past week was the most happiest in my life but all those champagne wishes, caviar dreams and fairy tail endings are not for me. I have a life where come from and I want to live it again.” Turning to Marty he said “And if I have to live my life the way I’m supposed to live it, I would like to live it with him.” Turning to Simonetta, she said “I’m sorry that I took that job away from you. I had no right to do so. But I had to do something. I was hiding from someone I thought betrayed me.”

“That’s alright.” said Simonetta, “I always wanted to take a week’s vacation from that studio. And I’ve enjoyed it. Whenever your once and future beloved was out of the house, I happened to have some time home alone with my husband.” She put her hand into her husband Marco’s arm.

Then, Jennifer turned to Botticelli and said “Maestro. I’m sorry I can’t pose for the finish of your painting.”

“But who else can I find to pose for such a masterpiece?” asked Botticelli.

Jennifer turned back to Simonetta saying to the artist “I know just who would do the honors. Simonetta, want your job back?”

Simonetta put her hand on her heart saying “I would be so honored to do so.”

“Simonetta.” said Botticelli, “As soon as things quiet down out here, report to the changing room. I’ve got a painting to do.”

“Yes maestro.” said Simonetta, “And it’s good to be back.”

With this done, Jennifer turned to go back to Marty. As she did, the prince asked her “Simonetta. Please don’t leave. How could I live without you?”

Jennifer turned to the prince saying “Someday your princess will come.” Noticing the sad look on the prince’s face she said “My prince, I would like to make one request though.”

“And that is…”

“That we kiss on last time.” said Jennifer.

The prince looked around. Then, he said “One last kiss.”

Immediately, they put their arms around each other and kissed.

Then, Jennifer slid slowly away from the prince until they were an arm’s length from each other just holding hands saying “Farewell, my prince.”

With this done, Jennifer returned to Marty saying “Mr. McFly. The prodigal sweetheart has returned.”

“Welcome back into my life, Jen.” said Marty as they both kissed.

“Mm… Marty.” said Jennifer.

“What is it, Jennifer?” asked Marty.

“I hate to say this, Marty.” said Jennifer, “But the prince was a better kisser.”

“He was?” exclaimed Marty.

“Yes he was.” said Jennifer, “Which is why I like you better.”

They both laughed.

Then, Marty said “Let’s go…oh shit!”

“What is it Marty?” asked Jennifer.

“Home.” said Marty, “How are we gonna get home now? We’re still in 1473 and we don’t know whether or not Doc has come and gone.”

Jennifer put her hands over her mouth saying “Oh yeah. I forgot. There isn’t even a Hill Valley in 1473.”

Then a voice said “Marty, Jennifer.”

Both lovers turned to see Doc come out from the alleyway accompanied by the bishop.

“Doc!” said Marty, “It’s good to see you again.”

“Marty.” said Doc as they both embraced, “It’s good to see that you and Jennifer are back together.”

“It is.” said Jennifer, “Thank you, Doctor Brown. It’s time to go back now.”

“Back?” asked Doc.

“Back where, Jen?” asked Marty.

“Back to the future.” said Jennifer.

“Oh, alright.” said Marty.

Then, she grabbed the keys from Doc saying “And I’m driving.”

Doc and Marty looked at each other. Then, Doc turned to the bishop saying “Your eminence. Thank you for helping us find them. We’ll see you around.”

“Right.” said Marty, “Dominus vobiscum, et al.

“Marty.” whispered Doc, “That’s Latin for ‘Lord be with you’.”

“Sorry about that, Doc.” said Marty.

“Never mind that now.” said Doc, “Never mind that, let’s go catch up to Jennifer before she gets into the DeLorean.”

“Right, Doc.” said Marty and they both went to find Jennifer.

It didn’t take long to catch up with Jennifer knowing that she was only wearing a sheet and couldn’t run well in it so all they have to do was sprint.

“Hey Jen.” said Marty, “Wait up.”

“I wasn’t going to leave without either of you.” said Jennifer.

“You couldn’t anyway.” said Doc, “You don’t know where I parked the DeLorean.”

“Well, where is it?” asked Jennifer.

“Follow me.” said Doc. Marty and Jennifer did.

They went to the same meadow where they first arrived and Doc reached out his hand for something.

“Here it is.” he said.

Jennifer went over to where Doc was and stuck the key in something. The tip of the key disappeared and the sound of a car door unlocking was heard. Then, she lifted the invisible gull winged doors and the inside of the DeLorean was seen.

“Get in everyone.” said Jennifer.

“You first, Jen.” said Marty.

Jennifer looked around.

“Go ahead.” said Doc, and as Jennifer got in on the driver’s seat, he went onto say “Set the time circuits for October 17, 1987 9:00 p.m.” Jennifer did. “Now activate it and unlock the passenger side.” Doc went onto say as he went to the passenger side where Marty was standing.

Jennifer did and opened the door saying “Time circuits activated. Flux capacitor fluxing.”

“Good.” said Doc, “I’ll get in the back. Marty, sit with Jennifer.”

“Right, Doc.” said Marty. Already, he began to feel a little bit of normalcy now that Jennifer was back in his life again.

Once, they were both in, Jennifer turned the ignition on and activated the hover circuits until the DeLorean was a foot off the ground.

“Now, it’s back to the future.” said Doc.

Jennifer put her foot on the accelerator and the car kicked into high gear.

Marty took a look at the speedometer. “Jennifer.” he said, “You don’t have it up to 88 miles per hour.”

“I know.” said Jennifer, “That’s because I’ve got some convincing to do.”

“What do you mean, Jen?” asked Marty. Then, he and Doc noticed that they were heading back to Florence.

“Jennifer.” exclaimed Doc, “What in the name of Sir Isaac H. Newton are you doing?”

“I told you.” said Jennifer, “I’ve got some convincing to do.”

They found themselves in the heart of Florence again on the street where Botticelli’s studio was. He, the two models, the broom lady, the prince, Simonetta, her husband and the bishop were still there. Jennifer landed the car and turned off the cloaking device.

“Jennifer.” said Doc, “You can’t uncloak the DeLorean in 1473 Florence in broad daylight.”

Jennifer ignored him taking off the wig that she was wearing all day when she posed for the painting and honked the horn.

The eight turned around and saw the time machine in startled amazement. Driving it towards them, Jennifer opened the window and held out the wig to Botticelli.

“Here.” she said, “I think that Simonetta may need this.” The artist stared in stunned disbelief and so did the others. Then, she waved at everyone saying “Goodbye everyone. And thanks for everything.”

Closing the window, she reactivated the cloaking device and lifted off the ground. Putting her foot on the accelerator again, she kick the car back into motion. This time it was up to 88 miles per hour. And through the time barrier.

On the ground, the eight stared at the space were the strange vehicle in which the second Simonetta was in. Then, they saw a bright flash of light accompanied by a sound of an explosion. All eight looked to the sky and saw a huge fire ball that was there for only a brief second.

“Time machine.” muttered Botticelli.

The bishop turned around and gave him a look as if he knew of it too. And actually he did.

The prince looked to the sky saying “Goodbye Simonetta. I’ll never forget you. For a week you made me the most happiest man in the world. And I hope that the next woman is a beautiful as you.”

He bowed his head and return to the palace as the crowd looked on in sudden silence.
