Chapter 3

IT was eight o’clock when the show started. Up till then, the sell-out crowd was entertained by Brenda Holloway, The King Curit's Band, Cannibal and The Headhunters, and Sounds Incorporated (with a troupe of disco dancers?. Then, a man walk onto the stage that was set up at second base and said "Now, ladies and gentlemen, honored by their country, decorated by their Queen, loved here in America, here are The Beatles!”

Immediately, four men came out of nowhere and ran up to the stage. Once there, they started to perform.

Ah, ah, ah, ah
Yeah, shake it up baby now
Twist and shout
Come on, come on, come
Come on baby now
Come on and work it on out
You know you twist, little girl
You know you twist so fine
Come on and twist a little closer now
And let me know that you're mine
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, baby now
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, baby now
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, baby now
Ah, ah, ah, ah.

As they were performing, the girls who were about Marty and Jennifer’s age were screaming in excitement drowning out the music that the Beatles were performing. For the next half hour the four were churning out She's A Woman, I Feel Fine, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, Ticket To Ride, Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby, Can't Buy Me Love, Baby's In Black, I Wanna BeYour Man, A Hard Day's Night, Help! and I'm Down as some of the girls were scaling the backstop screen behind home plate while others were running on the field only to be caught by the NYPD who were in charge of security that night.

At one point one of the Beatles were introducing A Hard Day’s Night and Help! saying “The next to songs are title songs for our two movies. The first one was from last year’s movie which was shot in black-and-white; the second one was in color. Well, this is the black-and-white one and it’s called A Hard Day’s Night.

It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I'll find the things that you do
Will make me feel all right.
You know I work all day to get you money to buy you things
And it's worth it just to hear you say you're going to give me everything
So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone
You know I feel OK.
When I'm home everything seems to be right
When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight
Owww!
So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone
You know I feel OK.
You know I feel all right
You know I feel all right

After the song finished, the Beatles again said “The next song is also a movie song, the first one was for the black-and-white song and this one is for the one that was shot in color. And it’s call Help!”

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.
When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.
And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.
When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh.

After that song one of the Beatles said “This next song is the last song for the evening. And…” Then, he was talking gibberish.

Calpurnia turned to Clara and asked “Clara. Something’s wrong with my translator. I didn’t catch what that man said.”

“I didn’t either.” said Clara.

Calpurnia’s raised and eyebrow at this.

Meanwhile, the Beatles were performing I’m Down..

You telling lies thinking I can't see
You don't cry 'cos you're laughing at me
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (Down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh when you know I'm down
(How can you laugh) When you know I'm down.

Man buys ring woman throws it away
Same damn thing happens everyday
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (Down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh when you know I'm down
(How can you laugh) When you know I'm down.

We're all alone and there's nobody else
You still moan: "Keep your hands to yourself!"
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (Down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh when you know I'm down
(How can you laugh) When you know I'm down.

Don't you know that I'm down (I'm really down)
Don't you know that I'm down (I'm really down)
Down on the ground (I'm really down)
Don't you know that I'm down (I'm really down)
Down, down, down.

All during the singing, the Beatle who introduced the song was stroking the keyboard with his elbow causing another Beatle to laugh to the point that he couldn’t play along with the rest of his mates. But who cared? They couldn’t be heard anyway.

After the performance, the crowd headed for the exits as did Clara and Calpurnia who said “I never heard so much noise in my life.”

“Well, Marty and Jennifer seemed to like it.” said Clara.

“The screaming?”

Clara paused there for a minute. Then, she said “Oh, I thought you meant the music.”

“What music?” asked Calpurnia, “I couldn’t hear the music over the screams.”

“The girls didn’t care.” said Clara, “They would rather see the Beatles rather than hear them.” Calpurnia raised one of her eyebrow at this comment. “Oh, by the way,” said Clara, “this concert starts a tour through America with one of the stops being Hill Valley where they perform for the only time. The Beatles stayed at the Blue Bird Hotel where Jennifer’s parents met for the first time. Her father was a valet and her mother was a crazed Beatle fan. She snuck into the hotel room to be close to them and she was caught by them and passed out. When she came too, she saw her future husband, they both fell in love, got married and had Jennifer. I should say that if it wasn’t for the Beatles, Jennifer would never been born.”

“The same Jennifer of whom Marty was buying that bracelet for.” said Calpurnia.

“Correct.” said Clara, “In fact, if it wasn’t for Jennifer, I would’ve perished when I fell into that ravine in 1885.”

“You would?” asked Calpurnia, “Ah yes. That trip to 2015 that set off a chain reaction of events that led to your encounter with Doctor Brown.”

“You got it.” said Clara, “If it wasn’t for Jennifer being a distraction to Emmett and Marty, Old Biff wouldn’t have gotten that book, stole the time machine and gave it to his younger self. And Marty and Emmett wouldn’t have to go back to 1955 to get that book and burn it and Emmett wouldn’t have to be in the car when it was struck by lightning and be sent back in time where he saved my life.”

“So in a matter of speaking,” said Calpurnia, “if it wasn’t for the Beatles, you would’ve died and those two boys of your would’ve never been born.”

“That’s saying it short.” said Clara, “And to the point.”

Calpurnia smiled as the two reached the limousine and got in and sat there awhile.

In the car, Calpurnia asked “Why are we waiting?”

“We got to wait until the traffic thins out before we leave.” said Clara, “Care for a midnight snack?”

“What do you got?”

“Oh, it’s in the trunk. I’ll go get it.”

Immediately, Clara got out only to run into four men fleeing a crowd. These men were getting into the back seat of the limousine.

“Excuse us, gentlemen.” said Clara, “But this belongs to…” Then, she looked at the crowd of oncoming girls approaching and got back in.

As she did, one of the men said “Hey look what we got here. Women drivers.”

At once, Clara recognized the accent. It was British. Then, the girls were upon the car trying to rock it and calling out the names of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Immediately, she knew who they were.

“Oh dear.” she said, “You’re the Beatles.”

“Give the lady a cigar.” said the Beatle. Clara fainted. The same Beatle said “Don’t faint driver. We need you to get us out of here.”

“Now wait a minute.” said Calpurnia, “You’re in the wrong chariot-I mean car. You four have to leave at once.”

Then, she felt the car shake and she turned around to see one of the girls reach in her blouse and pull out something. Then, the blouse itself came off and Calpurnia fainted.

“They’re both out.” said Ringo.

“Now who’s going to drive the car?” asked Paul.

“Let me.” said John jumping over the seat and pushing the lady driver aside, “I’d always wanted to drive one of these jalopies.”

“Are you sure, John?” asked George, “After all, it’s their car.”

“Oh, they won’t mind.” said John, “Let’s see here. Now here in America, they drive on the right side of the road so the wheel is over here. And what’s this?”

“What’s what, John love?” asked George.

“This.” said John pointing to some object on the dashboard.

Ringo leaned over the car seat and put his hand on something saying “Beats me.”

Then, the thing that Ringo had his hand on moved.

“Careful, Ringo.” said Paul.

“Look!” said Ringo.

The other three did. The object lit up with displaying letters and numbers looking like this:

AUG 15, 1965 5:15 p.m.
Destination Time

AUG 15, 1965 9:15 p.m.
Present Time

MAR 19, 1988 7:30 p.m.
Last Time Departed

Flushing, New York
Destination Location

“What is this?” asked Paul.

“Who cares?” said John, “It’s a ‘Made in America’ car. Things are different over here in the colonies. That’s why they got all these weird stuff here. Like this.” He spied a button labeled CLOAK and pushed it.

The girls were all over the car trying to get inside when suddenly it vanished!

“Where did it go?” asked one of the ladies.

“I don’t know.” asked another, “John, Paul, George, Ringo, where are you?”

In the car John was playing with more buttons when Paul said “Hey look. They’re dispersing.”

“Oh come on.” said Ringo.

“They’re acting like they’re looking for something.” said George.

“Maybe we should ask them what they’re looking for?” said John as he opened the window despite a protest from the other three. Sticking his head out the window he asked “Hey ladies. Did you drop something or what?”

All of a sudden, some of the girls passed out and dropped to ground. The others fled.

“Did I say something?” asked John. Then, he looked down and noticed something. “Hey guys, can you all stick your heads out the window and look at the side of the car?”

They did. What they saw was astonishing: The limousine they were in was invisible.

“Well, I’ll be.” said George, “We’re in a car that vanishes.”

“I was wondering why those girls were acting strange.” said Paul, “But how did the car turn invisible.”

“Let’s see.” said John, “I was pushing some buttons here. Maybe one of them made this car disappear.”

“But which one?” asked Ringo.

“It’s got to be one of them buttons on the dashboard.” suggested George.

“Let’s see.” said John pushing a button labeled HOVER.

The four felt a jolt causing Ringo to say “I thought New York didn’t have earthquakes.”

“It wasn’t an earthquake, Ringo love.” said George, “You all better look out the window.”

The Beatles did. They found themselves off the ground and at the same altitude as the rim of the stadium.

John smirked. “If this isn’t the car we’re supposed to be in, then Brian should get one for us.” Then, he went back to pushing some more buttons on the keypad. He noticed a switch there with the letters TIME and LOCATION written there. So he flicked the switch to the “LOCATION” position and said “Let’s go somewhere.”

He pushed some buttons and the indicator read “Vienna, Austria”

“What’s over there, John-love?” asked George.

“Do you remember Astrid?” asked John.

“I do.” said Paul.

“I received a letter from her saying she’s spending the summer there.” said John, “Let’s fly over there and pay her a visit.”

“Yeah let’s” said the Beatles.

Immediately, John put his foot to the pedal and drove off at such a high speed that there was a brilliant flash of light outside the car.

But what he didn’t realize was that he had set the time circuits for May 7, 1824.
