Chapter 2
DOC looked at his son's book in disbelief. "How could I be foolish?" he asked himself, "How could I be wrong? December 7, 1941, Pear Harbor, The Arizona!" Clara came in. "Emmett." she said, "I heard all the commotion. What's the matter?" "This!" said Doc showing the page of the book to Clara, "I sent Marty into the past to serve in the Navy and he was assigned to the Arizona in 1941. Look what has happened to it." "Oh dear." gasped Clara. "I gave Marty the name of Burt Lancaster from a birth certificate in 1923." said Emmett, "There's only one way to find out. I'm going over to the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii." Doc went out to his lab and loaded the fusion generator and then got in. Keeping the time the same, he set the "Destination Location" for Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and lifted off.

The DeLorean was set down and parked at the nearest availiable parking spot. After getting out Doc went over to the nearest stall to get into a boat that would take him to the Arizona Memorial. After arriving there, Doc checked out the names of the men who died on the Arizona. After reaching the L's he came across the name LANCASTER, BURT. The same name that Doc gave Marty. "Great Scott!" he said to himself, "Marty's down there." Doc to the boat back to shore, returned to the DeLorean and lifted off back to Hill Valley.

The DeLorean reappeared in the morning sky. In it, Doc looked down. A station wagon had now pulled up. "Great Scott." said Doc, "It must be Jennifer." He guided the DeLorean into the house and landed in the lab. Doc got out as the doorbell rang. Jules and Verne came in. "Jules, Verne." said Doc, "Where's your mother?" "Answering the door." said Jules. "Jules." said Doc, "This is important. I want to borrow your history book and go back in time to show Marty something." Jules complied. Then Doc called out "Einstein" His dog responded. Clara came in. "Emmett." she said, "It's Jennifer. She's here." "Let her in." he said, "But don't tell her anything. I've got to go back and get Marty out of 1941." Doc went over to set the time circuits and as he did he said "My fears were confirmed. Marty is down in the harbor somewhere. I have to go back to save him." He set the circuits for December 7, 1941. 7:45 am. And the Destination Time for Pearl Harbor. "Emmett." said Clara, "Your setting the date for that terrible day." "I know." said Doc, "I have to go to that date." "Why?" asked Clara. "Because", said Doc, "Marty wrote the letter on December 6. I have no choice but to go to December 7 so I could give him the chance to write it and send it." He turned to Clara and said "Go and admit Jennifer in. I'll be gone for only a minute." He turned to Einstein and said "Get in, Einy." And the dog did. Doc took along Marty's 1985 clothes. After reloading Mr. Fusion, he lifted the DeLorean off the floor and went through the opening ceiling. After which, he activated the time circuits and kicked it up to 88 miles per hour. The car vanished into thin air leaving fire trails behind.

The DeLorean appeared in the early morning air. Activating the cloaking device, Doc stirred the car towards the Arizona. After landing the car on the main deck. Doc and Einstein got out with Doc saying "Remember where we parked, Einy." Doc let Einstein sniff Marty's clothes and then said "Let's go, Einstein." He and the dog went down the deck and then down below to the crew quarters.

Marty and his crewmates were awake since dawn when they heard a dog barking in the hallway. "There's a dog on the ship." said Daniel. Marty opened the door. There was a sheepdog simular to Einstein. Marty look at the dog tag. It was Einstein. "Einstein." said Marty petting him, "What are you doing here?" Then a voice of a man running down the hall to Marty was heard. It was Doc. "Marty." he said, "You've got to come back with me." "Back?" asked Marty, "Back where?" "Back to the Future." said Doc. He turned to Marty's shipmates and said "Excuse me gentlemen. Me and my friend here need to talk." He pulled Marty out of the room and closed the door. "Com'on, Marty." said Doc, "I've got the DeLorean ready." "Wait a minute, Doc." said Marty, "My letter said that my discharge is tomorrow." "Marty." said Doc, "There won't be a discharge for anyone tomorrow. In fact, there won't be a you to be discharged tomorrow." "What are you saying, Doc?" asked Marty. Doc pulled out Jules' US History book and turned the page to Pearl Harbor and showed Marty. "Look what happens in the next few minutes." said Doc. Marty looked at it. On the page was shown the picture of the Arizona after it was attacked by the Japaneze at Pearl Harbor. "Holy Geez!" exclaimed Marty as he read a page, "'On the morning of Sunday, December 7, three waves of Japanese bombing planes...'December 7th??-That today!" "Precisely, Marty." said Doc, "And according to this book, in a few minutes the Arizona will be sunk with almost twelve hundred men trapped inside-including you." "This is heavy, Doc." said Marty. "Weight has nothing to do with it." said Doc, "Com'on Marty, Jennifer has arrived at my house back in 1985. We can't keep her waitng." "Jennifer?" exclaimed Marty. "That's right" said Doc, "I went to Hawaii to check up your name at the Arizona Memorial and when I returned, I saw her car pull up." Then, the sound of airplanes were heard. "Damn." said Doc, "We've got to leave now." "Why Doc?" asked Marty, "What makes you think this?" "Do you hear that?"
said Doc, "The Japanese are coming." Doc, Marty and Einstein ran up to the deck of the ship and Marty looked to the sky. There, in the distance, a swarm of airplanes were approaching the harbor very threateningly. "Jesus Christ!" said Marty. "Com'on Marty." said Doc, "Einstein knows where we parked." The two followed Einstein to a deserted spot. "Where's the DeLorean?" asked Marty. "Right here." said Doc, "Don't you remember? Before we left I demonstrated the cloaking device to you." "Oh yeah." said Marty, "Doc, do I have enough time to change? I don't want to go back in a sailor's outfit." "No time for that." said Doc as he was fiddling with his hands in thin air. Marty figured that he was loading Mr. Fusion. "Get in." said Doc. Marty closed in on Doc but bumped into something. It was the DeLorean. It was invisible. Marty frantically felt for the door handle and found it. Pulling the latch he opened the door and out of nowhere was the interior of the DeLorean. The two and Einstein got in as the shooting and bombing began. Imediately, Doc inputed the destination time and location for December 7, 1985, 9:45 am, Hill Valley, California. "Hang on Marty." said Doc. Marty felt the car lifting off the deck. Doc put his hand on Einstein eyes and said "Marty, Einey. Brace yourselves for temporal displacement." Doc kicked it up to 88 mile per hour. Nothing. "Great Scott!" said Doc. "What is it?" asked Marty. "I forgot to activate the time circuits." said Doc. He flicked the switch. "Time circuits on." said Doc, "Flux capacitor flux..." Bang. The car hit something. "What the hell was that?" asked Marty. "I don't know." said Doc. Looking around outside. There were bombings and shootings all over the place now. "We don't have time to land this thing and investigate." said Doc, "We'll have to wait until we're back in the future." Again, he kicked the DeLorean up to 88 miles per hour. This time it worked. The DeLorean disappeared leaving fire trails behind.

The Japanese pilot had a photo of the Arizona and looked down. The ship was in his sights. With the torpedo homed in on the fuel section, the pilot dropped the torpedo into the water so it could head to the ship. But then, he saw something peculiar. The torpedo went wobbly as if it hit something in thin air. Then, he saw a flash of light followed by two streaks of fire flying by like parallel bars. Meanwhile the torpedo dropped into the harbor and sped harmlessly out to sea.
