Chapter 7

Monday, August 29, 1966
San Francisco, California
10:30 a.m.
Outside Candlestick Park

THE parking lot was still deserted when the limousine appeared over the sky. Setting the car down, Doc and Marty got out.

Doc looked at the pavement and said "Look, there's tire burns here."

Marty looked and said "It looks brand new." Then he looked at the stadium and asked Doc "Are you sure that's Candlestick Park?" '

"It is!" said Doc.

"Doc." said Marty, "I've seen the Dodgers play the Giants up here on TV and the Rams and Raiders play the Forty-Niners too. I don't recall it being open end before."

"Marty." said Doc, "You're forgetting, this is 1966. The stadium is open end in this point in time. It doesn't become fully enclosed until 1972 when the Forty-Niners move in."

Then Doc grinned saying "You know in 1995, this stadium gets renamed 3Com Park."

"3Com?" asked Marty.

"That's right, Marty." said Doc, "Candlestick must've been some old Indian name."

Then the two turned to the limousine as Doc said "Com'on Marty, lets go find Jennifer and the boys, come back for the DeLorean and go home."

"Right, Doc." said Marty. The limousine left the parking lot and went into the city.

Arriving at Polk Street, the limousine went into an alleyway. Doc got out with Einstein telling Marty,

"Stay here. If I need your help I'll call you."

"But Doc..." said Marty.

"Marty." said Doc, "I can't risk letting someone else making off with the limousine as well. Stand guard." Doc produced the sleep inducer and gave it to Marty saying "Use this on anyone that'll try to make off with the car."

"You're the Doc, Doc." said Marty.

"Com'on Einy." said Doc, as he and his dog left.

Jennifer left the Western Union office building and bumped into Doc.

"Doctor Brown." said Jennifer.

"Daddy." said the boys.

But Doc was startled.

"Excuse me." he said, "What's the meaning of this?"

"Doctor Brown." asked Jennifer, "Didn't you receive my note?"

"What note?" asked Doc, "And Who in the name of Isaac H. Newton are you?

"Jennifer Parker." said Jennifer, "You left me with your two sons and..."

"I don't have any children." said Doc.

Then Jennifer realized something. This could not have been the Doc Brown from 1985.

++++++

Doc returned with Einy.

"Doc." asked Marty, "What is it?"

"Jennifer." said Doc, "She's out there."

"What?" asked Marty.

"She's out there." said Doc, "Talking to me.

"Wait a minute Doc." said Marty, "What'd you mean she's talking to you? I didn't see her come with you."

"Not me." said Doc, "The other me. The me that is resident here in 1966."

"Holy Geez." exclaimed Marty. The two took a peak down the street.

Doc went on to say "If she tells my other self about what she did in the future, the consequences could be disasterous."

The two spied hopelessly at Jennifer as she carried on the conversation with the other Doc.

As they  looked on, Marty said "Doc, we've gotta do something."

"It's too risky," said Doc, "I cannot go out there and stop Jennifer from telling my other self what's going to happen without my other self seeing me. We've just have to wait until 'I' leave. And just hope Jennifer doesn't say anything."

"You're the doc, Doc." said Marty.

++++++

Doc looked at Jennifer saying "So you're the girl that Marty was talking about."

"That's right." said Jennifer.

"And you're as lovely as he told me." said Doc. Then he turned to Jules and Verne, "And these are the boys that Marty told me about a couple of years ago in New York."

"That's right." said Jennifer, "Jules and Verne."

Doc laughed as he said, "Named after one of my favorite authors, Jules Verne." He turned to Jennifer saying, "When I was eleven, I wanted to build a submarine and meet Captain Nemo. That's when I realized that I was going to be a scientist." Then he asked "What are you doing here in 1966 with my boys?"

"I'm babysitting them." said Jennifer.

"Oh." said Doc, "As a part of a day with them, I let you use the time machine to go back in time and show them the past."

"No Doc." said Jennifer, "It wasn't that way. You see..."

"No!" said Doc, "If you are doing this without my permission, I don't want to know about it."

"But Dr. Brown," said Jennifer, "these are your boys..."

"I know that." said Doc, "But I don't want to know that you acted without my permission, and I don't want to know the date you left. Don't you see, bringing me such information like that could threaten the very existence of the universe itself."

"Why?" asked Jennifer.

"Because", said Doc, "with you and the boys here talking to me, you've locked me into an unalterable sequence of events. I know that someday, I'll be building a time machine, that I'll be traveling through time, will go back in time and marry a lovely woman and that..." he turned to the boys and said "I'll have two lovely boys."

Jennifer could see a tear streaming down Doc's cheek.

Then Doc turned Jennifer saying "But I must not know what the reason, the circumstances or the exact date you did what you're doing. Whatever you did or what you're going to do, I'll learn about it through the course of time."

"Okay, Doctor Brown." said Jennifer, "Whatever you say."

"I hope I could see you again in the future." said Doc.

"Doctor Brown." said Jennifer, "I just wrote you a note that you'll read nineteen years from now. I hope to see you here in the past."

Doc paused for a moment before saying "Exactly!"

They both embraced, then Doc embraced his two boys and left.

++++++

As his other self left, Doc turned to Marty and gave him a walkie-talkie and said "Stay here, I'll single you when I get Jennifer."

"Check, Doc.".

"Com'on Einy" said Doc as his dog followed him to Jennifer.

++++++

Jennifer started down the street with the boys when she ran into Doc. This time, he had Einstein.

"Doctor Brown." said Jennifer, then she turned to Einstein, saying "Einy." petting the dog.

"Daddy." said the boys.

They both embraced their father.

"Thank God you're both safe." he said. Then he turned to Jennifer and said "Jennifer, I received your message."

"Good." said Jennifer.

Doc produced his walkie-talkie and said "Okay, Marty bring the limo."

Minutes later the car emerged and pulled up. Marty emerged from the car.

"Marty." said Jennifer.

The two embraced.

"Jules, Verne." said Doc, "Don't look." It took a few minutes, then Doc asked "Are you two through yet?"

"What Doc?" said Marty, "Oh yeah."

The five got in with Einstein. Doc was in the front, Marty, Jennifer, the boys and Einstein were in the back.

"Alright." said Doc, "Time to go."

The car entered a blind alley. As it did, Doc started setting the time circuits. Jennifer took a peek. The "Destination Time" read:

AUG 29, 1966 10:04 pm

"Doctor Brown" said Jennifer, "That's not the time the Beatles started the concert, that's the time the DeLorean reappears."

"Precisely!" said Doc, "We're going to 10:04 to pick up the DeLorean and then we're going home."

"But Doctor Brown..." protested Jennifer.

"I'm sorry." interrupted Doc, "But your trip here to 1966 is over. You must not run into your parents at the concert. The consequences of your actions could be disasterous."

"No." said Jennifer, "No."

"Jennifer." said Marty, "It's for your own good."

"No, no." cried Jennifer.

"Marty." said Doc, "The sleep inducer. Do you have it ?"

"I do, Doc." said Marty.

"Then use it." said Doc.

Marty produced the sleep inducer and was ready to use it on Jennifer when he turned and used it on Doc instead.

"Daddy." said the boys, then he used it on the boys.

"Marty!" exclaimed Jennifer, "What're you doing?"

"Doc said use it." said Marty, "And I did."

Marty got out and went to the front seat. Pushing the unconscience Doc aside, he got in the driver's seat and reset the time circuits to 7:00 pm.

"Marty." asked Jennifer, "Now what are you doing?"

"Something for your own good." said Marty, "You said you wanted to go to the concert..."

"But Marty." said Jennifer, "Doc said..."

"I know what Doc said." said Marty, "But I didn't want to deprive you of your night at the concert."

"I know, Marty." said Jennifer, "But not at the cost of your friendship to Doc."

"Jennifer." said Marty, "We've been in love with each other longer before my friendship with Doc. I think I owe it to you to go. And I'll be there with you."

They both kissed and Marty activated the hovering device and the car lifted off the ground.

Activating the time circuits, Marty pressed down on the accelerator with his foot and the limousine speed up to 88 miles per hour and vanished.
