Chapter 4

Monday, August 29, 1966
San Francisco, California
6.00 a.m.
Outside Candlestick Park

THE  Delorean reappeared over the stadium. After managing a few manuvers she settled the car down onto the pavement of the parking lot outside the ballpark. Getting out she went over to Mr. Fusion and reloaded the generator with two drops of poison as the instructions told her too. Unbeknownst to her, the two boys got out of the car and went over to the nearest dumpster to hide. She returned to set the circuits to the same day and looked at the time departed.

It read

NOV 13, 1985 10:04 pm.

Now November 13th,  day she left, was the day after the 30th anniversary of the famous lightening storm of which a bolt a lightening struck the clock tower forever leaving the hour and minute hands at 10:04!

So keeping the destination date and place the same, she set the time at 10:04 pm and activated the circuits. Getting out she closed the door and started working the remote.

Then a voice was heard.

"You're in deep trouble."

Jennifer turned to see Jules and Verne.

"Jules", she said "Verne! I thought you two were in bed."

"Tricked you didn't we." said Jules.

"That's not funny!" said Jennifer, "Get into the car."

"Where are we going?" asked Verne.

"Back to the future!" said Jennifer, "You ruined my whole day here." As she patted them on the back as a motion back to the car, Jules grabbed the remote from her and activated it. "Give that back to me." said Jennifer.

But Jules gave it to Verne who tossed it back the Jules. Jennifer ran for Jules who tossed it back to Verne. Jennifer ran for Verne who threw it back to Jules who turned it on and aimed for the car. The DeLorean took off and drove around. Jules turned a few knobs on the remote and the car accelerated fast.

Jules made some more adjustments saying "Kill the babysiter!"  The DeLorean rocketed towards Jennifer. Before it could hit her, the car vanished in a big explosion. Fire trails shot passed her right where the car would've hit her. She looked to where the firetrails headed to then to Jules who said "Oop!" grinningly. "Now you can have this back" he said handing over the remote to Jennifer who didn't find it at all funny.

"Did you know what you did?" she demanded, "You left me stranded here with you!"

"Awwww!" said the boys, "We're all choked up!"

Jennifer was steamed. Stuck for the next fourteen hours and four minutes in 1966 San Francisco with two brats!

Doc and Clara finally got out of the theatre and headed for the car. As they did, they could feel a patter of rain drops coming down.

"Emmett!" said Clara, "Was there a weather report about rain tonight?"

"It couldn't be." said Doc, "The weatherman can't be that wrong." He went on to say "He said there would be no storms during the week. The last time we had rain when we weren't supposed to was after Old Biff went...Great Scott, Jennifer!" Clara turned to her husband in horror. Doc continued. "She must have discovered the keys and the loading instructions to the fusion reactor." he said, "I also left the tape of my first time travel experament at the Lone Pine Mall."

"Emmett." said Clara, "Isn't it now called..."

"Never mind that now!" said Doc, "The only thing now is that Jennifer has studied the tape, the instructions, and is now on her way to 1966!" He turned to Clara and said "If she encounters her parents there, she could break up their marriage before it gets off the ground. If that happens, Jennifer herself will not be born, and the Jennifer that went there will vanish from existance and we'll have a major paradox."

"You mean..." gasped Clara.

"I mean", said Doc, "It could be one so great the it could disrupt the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe." Clara slumped in terror. "That's the worse case scenerio." said Doc, comforting her, "The destruction can be localized and limited to our own galaxy."

"That's comforting." said Clara. "Let's go." said Doc, "Let's we could stop Jennifer before she gets into the DeLorean." Doc stopped to pick up a discarded soda can saying "Damn litterbugs! Don't they know the very existance of garbage cans."

He put it in the nearest garbage can.

Then the same fat woman that sat next to the couple came out of nowhere and asked "Don't you believe in recycling?"

Clara went over to address her.

"Don't you realized that what you did was rude tonight. We had an emergency" she said.

"Next time pick an aisle seat."

Clara was ready to charge her when Doc stepped in saying "Don't mind her. She's been under a lot of stress."

After that, he dragged her to the car.

San Francisco, California
8:00 a.m.

Jennifer and the boys spent the last two and a half hours walking into the city. The two boys were in their pajamas so Jennifer's first order of business was to buy them new clothes with the money she had from her after school job at Burger King. They went into the nearest diner so she could use the phone.

The man behind the counter asked "Hey lady, where was the fire last night?"

Jennifer turned to the man and asked "What?"

"What's with boys in their pj's?" he asked.

"I just want to use the phone." said Jennifer

"It's in the back."

She turned to the boys and said "You two stay here."

Jennifer entered the phone book and started thumbing through the pages, first for the nearest Macy's, and then the nearest Western Union office. Hearing of Doc's method of sending a message back to the future to Marty, she adopted the same idea realizing that she now had no choice but to inform Doc of what she did in order to take the boys off of her hands. She was ready to dial when she noticed a note placed on the phone.  It read

 OUT OF ORDER

Having written down the addresses for both Macy's and Western Union she went out of the booth to get Jules and Verne.

As she ready to get them she told the man in the counter "That phone is..."

"Are you going to order something?" interrupted the man.

"No!" said Jennifer, "I'm going to..."

"Yes!" said the boys.

Jennifer turned to the boys and said "No. We're going shopping now. I've got to get you out of those pajamas."

"Jennifer", said Jules, "Remember we're stranded here until 10:04 tonight. We're going to be very hungry then."

Seeing that the boys had a point Jennifer turned to the man and said "Two cones of ice cream for the boys and a Tab for me."

"Yum, yum." said the boys.

The man handed Jennifer the cones of ice cream and a piece of paper that read TAB on the heading and the price of the two ice creams.

Jennifer said "I said a..." Then read the heading and said "Alright. A Pepsi Free."

The man looked at her and said "If you want a Pepsi, lady, you've gotta pay for it."

Jennifer felt a headache coming on at the two boys giggled at her predicament. "Alright." she said, "Something without sugar in it."

"Something without sugar." repeated the man and he poured out a cup of coffee for her.

Before going to the Browns' house, she bought a map of San Francisco at Seven-Eleven for her trip through time. However it was a map of the San Francisco of 1985. So when she asked "Do you know where I could find Union Square?"

"It's on the corner of Geary and Stockton Streets." said the man behind the counter.

"Geary and Stockton Streets." repeated Jennifer as she produced the map from her purse and studied it. "That's five blocks north of the Moscone Center."

"Where the hell is that?" asked the man behind the counter.

"Well it's..." said Jennifer, "You'll find out." In about twelve or thirteen years. she said to herself.

After being given directions on the whereabouts of Polk street and after the boys finished their ice cream, she got them and left.
