"Yesterday and Today"

SYNOPSIS:When Marty has his tonsils taken out, Jennifer decides to buy him a get well gift. A few months back Jennifer was studying up on the Beatles and noticed a controversial album cover call "Yesterday and Today." It was the famous "butcher album" where the Beatles had posed as butchers with cut up meat and dismembered baby dolls. Initially, the idea was to go over to the Browns and give Doc some money to go back in time so he could buy it for her. But when she arrives, only Jules and Verne are home and that their folks were out. Not wanting to trust the money to the two boys, Jennifer decides to leave when she discovers her mother's "mod" skirt in the car and decides to put it on to go back in time to buy the album herself. She tries to convince the boys to give her the keys of DeLorean so she could go back in time. The boys agree as long as she takes them with her. After some consideration, Jennifer agrees. Arriving on the date, June 20, 1966, Jennifer goes into the record store to buy the album when she runs into her father who is buying the same album for his fiance, her mother. Outside, Jennifer's mother sees this, and thinking that her fiance is two-timing her breaks off the engagement. When Jennifer arrives back in the present, she discovers that she was never born. Nobody knows who she or the two boys that followed her through time are, not even Marty. After explaining to him that she knows him and Doc Brown and their time travels, Marty calls up Doc to let him know that he encountered "a strange girl with two boys" who knew everything about them. Doc helps Marty track her down and capture her. After some explaination by their captive, Doc does some research and discovers that back in 1966, a strange girl with the same clothes that Jennifer were wearing broke up an engagement with Jennifer's father and his future wife, her mother. He also learns that if it was not for Jennifer, there would not be the chain reaction of events that would sent Doc back to 1885 where he would keep Clara from falling into the ravine. Without Clara, Jules and Verne would not be born either. Jennifer shows Doc a snapshot of him an his family and Clara's head starts to erase from existance. Telling Jennifer that the boys would be next, he gets her to go back and repair the damage before she herself vanishes.

BACKGROUND:The idea of this story came out of necessity when I was writing "Joyride to the Past". There was a part of the story where Doc tells Marty that they could not go back to October 26, 1985 to keep Jennifer from seeing the time machine. He said that if it wasn't for her, they wouldn't be staying in the future, for them to track her down, long enough for Old Biff to steal the time machine and the chain reaction of events, that followed that incident, would not occur. By writing this story, I felt that I would give a more detailed information why it was impossible for Doc and Marty to stop Jennifer from seeing the time machine. Originally, when I wrote the story, I wanted it to take place in March 1986, following Kristen Sheley's "Return to the Past".. The original story idea was that Marty got detention then got grounded for all the rules that he broke in said story. But in February, I got sick so I set the story for somewhere February. I had this sore throat so I came up with the idea of Marty having tonsillitis instead. As for the "Butcher Album." Back in 1966, the Beatles posed for that album as a reaction to Capitol Records dismembering their British Parlophone Records and and puting them on separate albums. The cover was replaced by the more respectable look of the Beatles sitting around a suitcase. Please note that here in this story, we learn how Jennifer's parents met. You could say that it was a part of a "rewrite" of "Back to the Future Pt IV" in which Jennifer, not Marty, goes back in time to 1965 and accidentally foul up her parents first meeting (shades of the first BTTF movie), and that the Beatles had performed a concert in Hill Valley. However, that meant getting permission to create a "concert" with the real items, meaning asking permission from those who now holds the rights to the Beatles, namely Michael Jackson. The story also would've shown how Lorraine's brother "Jailbird" Joey reformed that year by having the time train accidentally appear overhead and causing Joey to think that it was God. Another tidbit of information, when the Beatles met Jennifer's mother, her name was Prudence, and when the Beatles heard about her name, John Lennon composed "Dear Prudence" for their White Album
