"Future Doc"
by Charles A. Murphy

Plot: This story takes place 3 days after "Joyride to the Past".

Synopsis: Three days after he and Doc went back into time to get Jennifer and the boys, Marty started to feel sorry for himself. Jennifer, not only did she get detention for two weeks, but was grounded causing her and Marty to miss the Sadie Hawkins dance which was to take place during the weekend. Doc, seeing this, calls him over to his place to help him reconfigure the fusion generator in the DeLorean and the limousine in hopes that Marty could forget about what might have been. In addition, Doc hopes to get rid of all the poisons that he used to load the fusion generators. Doc tells Marty that it used to belong to Howard Hughes for whom his father had once worked for and for whom Doc himself started off as an office boy. He tells Marty the story of the famous radio broadcast of Orson Wells in which there was a Martian invasion, causing panic around America, including a guard who went to guard the Spruce Goose enabling young Emmett to sneak into a lab and make off with the poisons. He even sets the date on the time circuits in the DeLorean to show Marty. After Doc's story, they both get to work. Doc had obtained a fusion generator from the future that converts poison into energy. He has Marty throw the poison into the generator but the thing breaks down. "I hope the warrenty is still good." said Doc. So Marty decides to throw the rest of the poison into the fusion generator of the DeLorean and convert it in there. Not knowing how it works without the time circuits, Marty activates them, forgetting that the time circuits were still set for October 30, 1938. The car lifts off and Marty kicks it up to 88 miles per hour and goes back in time. The idea works. The last of the poison is gone, but Marty is trapped back there. Knowing that young Emmett Brown has snuck off with the jar of poison, Marty makes off for him. He arrives at the Hughes factory in the morning and encounters Billsif Tannen, Biff's father. In Marty's time, history records him to be a Nazi colaborator, which made the Tannen family more nastier since then. (Until George McFly flattens Biff with a left hook in 1955) When Marty comments about Billsif's involvement, Billsif resents it and chases after Marty into the Spruce Goose. The Spruce Goose takes off with Marty in it. Howard Hughes says "It works." After the "joy flight", Marty lands the plane and gets out and finally heads to 1640 Riverside Dr. where the old Brown Mansion was still standing. He encounters 18-year-old Emmett Brown and tells him about the time machine. Young Emmett doesn't believe it at first, but then Marty tells him about the jars of poison, so young Emmett accompanies Marty to where the DeLorean was hidden and both sneak it back to the house. Once there, Marty shows young Emmett the flux capacitor. Then, young Emmett's father shows up and tells both of them that the flux capacitor was his design. Did the Doc Brown from the future really tell Marty the truth about how he discovered time travel, or was that story about hanging a clock over the toilet seat and slipping off the seat and banging his head on the floor made up? And was Billsif really a Nazi colaborator or was he a patzi?

Background: After having the first two BTTF stories "Beatle-related", I decided for a change of pace. I wanted to write a story about a young Emmett Brown after hearing about the "Young Indiana Jones" series. Getting Marty back there and having young Emmett make off with some jars of poison was the problem. I decided to use the famous Orson Wells broadcast of 1938 as a diversion for the future Doc. Marty, I had to think about that, and came up with an idea about the new fusion generator breaking down and Marty resorting to using Mr. Fusion in the DeLorean before Doc has the chance to reset the time circuits to "One minute into the future". As for using the name Billsif. I got that name from some troublemaker in the BTTF.COM chatroom. His name was Billsif and he stirred up a lot of trouble in the chatroom using profanity. Then, adding insult to injury, he put something very insulting in my Guestbook. I figuired that his name was perfect a Tannen after that incident and so I made him Biff's father.
