... poem from the end of the twentieth century,  which I have left up because of a visit to the Crescent City in Spring 2008

Love Story in NOLA (1999 Jazz Fest)

languidly sung, I'd be bold enough to say,
the island idol's bolero surpasses Ravel's:
for don't guys and dolls, docile, unglib,
sit idle and wait, await a spell (on you),
a reversal of otiose time,
an iconoclastic burst of passion,
hardly caring it might be a flash
of forgetfulness passed
from one generation to the nexus
of fathers and sons who learn (yearn to),
(or that it) might unravel on the spot
and dismantle the idyll--
place, prose intoned, position, composition--
they imagine, they seek?
