As a process development and design engineer,
I have worked in and
developed process systems for refineries, oil fields, chemical plants, wood pulp product
plants, the metalworking industry, and domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants.
My specialties are water and wastewater treatment using conventional and
advanced technologies.
As a project manager, I organize and direct teams of engineers, technicians, and craftsmen,
turning concepts into reality by designing, constructing, and operating process systems
at pilot through full scale. I am experienced in project
scheduling, procurement, construction supervision, and estimating construction and annual
O&M costs for new plants. I am well-versed at writing engineering
reports, startup and operating procedures, and developing process safety plans.
I have an extensive knowledge of water chemistry, and expertise in
the design and operation
of a multitude of types of water processing equipment. Technologies and equipment I have
incorporated into my designs include:
- Industrial and Municipal Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation:
- Wastewater treatment using membrane technologies,
including microfiltration, ultrafiltration, diafiltration, nanofiltration,
reverse osmosis, and the pretreatment
and cleaning technologies associated with these systems
- Oily wastewater reclamation processes for oil field produced water and
spent metalworking fluids
- Zero-liquid-discharge refinery wastewater treatment systems.
- Equalization tanks, rotating biological contactors, sequencing
batch reactors, biological and chemical phosphorus removal,
clarifiers, many types of sand filters, microfiltration systems, chlorine and UV disinfection
systems for domestic wastewater treatment
- Zeolite, weak-acid, and ion-specific softener use in water and wastewater streams
- Gravity decanters, air and gas flotation units
- pH control systems for enhancing solubility or promoting precipitation
- MVR Evaporators, forced-circulation crystallizers
- Crushed walnut shell filters for oil removal
- Domestic, Process and High Purity Water Treatment:
- Potable water treatment using reverse osmosis
- Disinfection of potable water using chlorination and chloramination
- Coagulation, flocculation, and upflow clarification
- Filtering operations, including pumice, sand, multimedia, bag and cartridge
filters, and microfiltration membrane systems
- Hot lime and ion exchange softening, and the use of nanofiltration
membranes for water softening
- Refinery cooling tower systems, including corrosion, antiscalant,
and biofouling control systems
- High pressure boiler feedwater systems
- High rejection reverse osmosis membrane systems
