 About the Band

 

The Musicians:

Evelyn Tiffany-Castiglioni
Accordion, Celtic Harp, Pedal Harp

  • Evelyn is the Head of the Department of Veterinary Integrative Sciences and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
  • She studied classical harp with Gayel Gibson at the University of Texas at El Paso and Laurie Buchanan at UT San Antonio.
  • She was selected as Harper of the Day at three recent Scottish harp competitions:  the Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games and the Ohio Scottish Games in 2004, as well as the Stone Mountain Highland Games in 2005.
  • She has published numerous harp arrangements of traditional tunes with Afghan Press and is past President of the Scottish Harp Society of America.

Renata Myers
Guitar

  • Renata, a stay-home mom, learned to play the guitar as a child in her native Brazil.
  • While living overseas for 22 years, she taught English as a second language and had the opportunity to play various music styles such as bossa nova, Latin American folk, and contemporary African tunes with groups from several countries.
  • Performing on rhythm guitar with Jalapeño Honey has been a very fulfilling experience for her.

Eden Schmeichel
Flute

  • Eden is a Eden is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice.
  • Eden has been playing the flute for 26 years having studied early on with Ervin Monroe, Principle flutist with the Detroit Symphony, and later for a year at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
  • For the past several years she has enjoyed playing casually and credits Jalapeño Honey with reviving a love of performance.

John Ivy
Fiddle, Mandolin

  • John is a biologist currently working as a Research Development Officer in the Office of the Vice President for Research at Texas A&M University.
  • During his youth, he studied viola and switched to fiddle in his 20s following his introduction to traditional music.
  • He was instrumental in organizing and performing at New England Contra Dance series on Long Island, New York and Oahu, Hawaii.
  • John also had played cittern and percussion with the medieval-Renaissance ensemble Heartsease.

as well as waltzes, polkas, klezmer and choro played on accordion, harp, guitar, flute, fiddle, and clarinet.
