Barbara now lives in Glasgow and is working for BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Barbara Downie is a terrific Scottish fiddler.
She has also played for the ballet, opera and symphony and taught fiddle and piano.
She's originally from Glasgow, Scotland. Her husband is also a musician.
We really enjoy and appreciate her wonderful music!

Barbara had the first of a two part article published in the Autumn 2002 The Kilt & Harp, Journal of The Scottish Harp Society of America, Inc. The article is entitled "Sonatas and Strathspeys." The bio part of the article reads:

"A native of Scotland, Barbara Downie came to Houston in 1994 to pursue Masters degrees in violin performance and musicology at Rice University. She became interested in Scottish fiddle music while writing her Master's dissertation, and has since played regularly for Dianna Shipman's Scottish Country Dance group in Houston. Ms. Downie holds performance diplomas from the London College of Music (piano accompanying), the Royal College of Music (violin performance), Trinity College London (viola performance) and has been broadcast on BBC television and radio." Part I of the article focuses on William McGibbon.
