Walt Disney Pictures is spending $8 million on the rights to Clive Barker's upcoming quartet of fantasy-adventure books, hoping to turn his new series into a Star Wars-esque multimedia powerhouse. Expect synergy at its finest. Walt Disney Pictures plans to develop movies, TV series, theme-park rides, video games and a host of licensed products. "This project is closer to my heart than anything I've ever done before," Barker tells the Los Angeles Times. "I was looking for a partner to take this world into every other medium."
